I have given this mod some thought, and there are ways it could work. First off the items could be dropable, so if people get tired of them they don't have to have them. The do the items as cases. The mage book could be done the way Sir Billybob did the mage books in The Secret of Bone Hill. I loved how when you fought some mages they dropped their spellbok, or you would find it looting. The theives kit could be a case, and you could find new tools hidden thoughout the game and add to it for more bonuses as you progressed. The Bards could have a songbook. You find new songs, diffrent ones could be done.

If it was done right to award bonuses it could work, IMO. If they were just there for realism, I am afraid I would have to agree with it being a waste of inventory slot mod.

IIRC you can't have items inside containers providing bonuses.

Of these, I wouldn't mind seeing the lockpicks/thieves tools, especially if you could upgrade them or find/buy better ones as you progress through the game.

Just remember that if you reduce thieving skills below 0, it actually rolls over to the top end of the scale, making them amazingly good ;).

I think you are correct, Nightmare. Perhaps the thieves kit could be upgraded like Kromwell or Raud? You find or buy new parts and they could be forged in?

To be honest, I don't like the (original) idea. It is a somewhat farfetch'd. When adding features like that the gameplay shifts from a RPG to a how-to-manage-your-items-and-skills game. If you want it a bit more realistic then how do you explain that Minsc can carry 20 sets of armour in his tiny-backpack!

Like others have said it adds to many items.
However in the case of thieves a new tab (like the spellbook) for thievingskills is not a bad idea.

Unfortunately it's also impossible to do.
