David Gaider :

Yes, and I think it's possible to take more "fantastical" races like dwarves and elves and still put them into a milieu that is more realistic and has actual political intrigue. I think that Tolkien did, for instance, although in his world those races were waning... it's just that Tolkien's version of those races has become the cliche since it has been copied so much since. Not to toot our own horn (as I'm sure there will be some who disagree, regardless), but I think the tack we're taking with them will be a refreshing one. For what it's worth: I know that, internally, those people who have come onto our team and read through the docs have generally commented that the races (in particular the elves) have been their favorite part.

It seems Bioware will make their races more involved into political schemes.

Not sure if you knew that dwarves are one of the three confirmed playable races?

For the first time, you choose how your character?s story begins and that choice changes how your story unfolds. From a grim barbarian wanderer who is the last of his kind, to an exiled dwarven prince betrayed by his brother; each of the many 'origin' stories spins its own heroic tale of intrigue and romance.

Each origin story completely changes the setting and events of the game's first chapter and unlocks different storylines, villains, romances and items throughout the course of the game.

This answer your question? It's in the sticky :P.

You know, I like stories which put fantasy concepts into realistic settings, or realistic concepts put into fantasy settings. But I can't help think how impressive & anti-Tolkien cliche it would be if someone could come up with a race that bore little to no resemblance to humanity (whether they were humanoid or not). That would be asking someone to create something counter-intuitive and I'm not sure how successfully it could ever be done, really.

Perhaps you could just play an undead version of all the races? Like a flip-side of the game.
Forward he cried from the rear
And the front rank died
And the general sat and the lines on the map
Moved from side to side.

Totally agree, Archmage. A very complex political background would be very interesting. And the PC's involvement in political schemes should not be just 1-2 side quests for some groups. PC should be able even to join some faction and support their way to power or involve that faction into his own quest.

*sigh* :( All the coolest things would mean the most work on the part of the developers'.

Still, some intrigue is not nearly as important as the ability to change the political situation that you enter.

:D :D
if da will be a very good game and if da does not depend on my programming skills for scripting as nwn does and if i am not as lazy for this as i am with my bg2 mods (one in the middle of playing through [because it is too repeatative to implement new content and i cant stand that :( ] and one in the drawing board phase [it is flashed out but my banter writing is the shittest eva so it will probably never be finished. and not now since it is exam time :) ]) then there will be an undead race. :D

that can then only mean it is the mainquest. you have like 3 groups, one is curently the main power and two others raise in power and you, the pc, chooses to support one of them.
