I find it sad that I do not play NWN myself, and I appear to be the only one to notice this. Or at least, no one wants to post it because its quite odd.

Neverwinter Nights isn't the only game that does this. For example, in Baldur's Gate II you CAN pickpocket Adalon for her dragon blood (at least you CAN before Baldurdash is installed. )
Though it is true that NWN almost exclusively depend on having an item in inventory to advance a non-existent plotline. (Though you should have a second opinion since I am rather biased against NWN )
