When I was halfway through SOA part of my recent BGT-BP game, I almost gave up upon the idea of continuing with the episode simply due to the new XP settings. (for which I assume BGT-BP must be responsible if, of course, no bug is involved)

As far as I have experienced, 1/3-1/4 amount of original XP is given for technically almost anything (monster killing, scroll reading, etc.) except for quest experiences. I guess this is intended to limit SOA character level when SOS/TDD series tasks could dramatically raise party XP prematurely if original XP settings are adopted. I believe this motivation is sufficiently justifiable, but playing under the new rules just drives me mad......I guess I am the type of guy who has got too used to original-BG-everything to happily accept such significant changes from any mods.

Just think about it: you no longer get same XP for killing beholders, liches, or even dragons (only poor old Firkraag holds his old XP value)......an XP discount is like a cheat in my face: you are fighting tougher opponents and you are getting less XP for them :glare: ......Ok, maybe I am becoming reaaally unreasonable here, but apart from single-class soloing, I really doubt any other cases would suggest XP-discount as a must......

If the XP amounts were not lowered, you would be at level 50 by the time you made the switch to ToB. Specially if you are soloing. There are just too many quests with too much XP. However, I find that no matter what level you are at, soloing still requires more reloads from dying than a full party does.

Was it SoS that had the monster worth 8 million XP, and the creator forbade it from being altered? I say this with all love and everything, but it sounds like a very Vlad thing to do.

Except that Vlad did Tortured Souls and NeJ. CBisson did SoS.

SoS has a dialog option where you quote some artist to Charlotte and you get 10K or some crazy amount of XP. If you are level 30 or higher that may be chump change but at level 15, that can help, specially if soloing when you get XP like that.

Sounds like that monster must have been a certain dragon that Vlad created in TS. I never romanced Sime so I never got that far into his storyline.

Ah, right. My memory is getting a bit foggy in my old age. It was Lolth from CBisson's SoS that's worth 8 million. Or so I'm told (or was).
