Also, why (in character terms) can she use Druid-only items when other Thieves can't? How necessary is it?

View Post

In order for her to be what I intend her to be (which is as much a druid as she is a thief), it is necessary.

And if hecky is the only way to go about it, then hacky it must be! B)

(lol... first serious attempt at modding and the first thing I attempt is a cheat. Ah me! )

I've uploaded my tool to this URL:
http://mcwrench.com/...s/ie/itfc_2.zip
Feel free to try it out. I don't recall exactly how it works (hopefully the included example provides enough insight), and I no longer have the source code, but feel free to ask questions :)

OK, next try   :^^:

One thought I have had recently is to:

  • go ahead and make the druidic items usable by ALL thieves, using the WeiDU patching scripts mentioned above.
    .

  • code a specific spell effect to make the druidic items I want Chrysta to be able to use and that are normally unusable by thieves unusable
    .

  • When any relevant thiefly NPC (e.g. Imoen, Yoshimo, Jan Jansen, etc.) joins, run a script action that applies the "unusable items" effect to them, meaning that they would no longer be able to use the druid items.
This way, the druidic items that Chrysta can use would not be usable by other thieves - they wouldn't get the red glow normally associated with unusable items, but it is such a limited number of items (and ones that people should already be aware that thieves shouldn't be able to use) that this seems a reasonable price to pay.

So... where have I gone wrong in my assumptions THIS time, modding gurus?  :D

In 2 you mean "usable", I guess?
At a first glance, I don't see why you shouldn't use the previously suggested solution..
If you're going to accept the loss of the red background, then you need no scripting, you can do all via CLAB files, and the tool provided by bt_igi :)
Then, if you follow my advice, you can limit the loss of the red background "only" to true class thieves and assassins ;)

EDIT: Also, you forget that even CHARNAME might be a thief of some sort, so you'd need to run a script - somewhere - even for the protagonist :)

Anyway, after all this technical talking, I think it's not unproper to raise this point: maybe they are a minority, but there are some "purists" out there who would consider "unworthy" a mod that somewhat deviates from the proper look of the game.
I tend to be part of this minority :(

I must say that I faced this problem myself, I'd probably consider the idea of renouncing to the druid items... one could emphatize the druidical abilities, and leave such items to true druids only, who live, after all, a full druidical life, and are more entitled to use them.
Just a consideration :)
