Hi All

I have just registered today and purchased the Ultimate Collection.

I am having a problem with both IWD1 & IWD2, I installed IWD1 then HOW then TOTL but when I load the game the intro plays and then I can choose any number of charaters then click done. The game screens starts the loading process but the screen freezes as the bar reaches maximum. Ctrl Alt Delete shows game not responding. Also installing IWD2 plus bonus CD and 2.01 patch the same happens.

I have discovered that changing IWD1 graphics settings to Open GL 3D acceleration will cure the problem and the game plays fine. However this option is not available in IWD2 graphics settings - Does anyone know how I can get around this problem?

My system is Athlon 1900XP 512MB, ram G-Force 3 TI500 drivers 7184, Windows XP home edition with SP2.

Thanks in advance

1.) Install game.
2.) Play game for awhile, turning off 3d, etc. Save.
3.) Install patches.(Only patch AFTER you have played the game for awhile).
4.) Let us know what happens.

Hi Aristothenes

No 2 I can not turn off 3D as there is no option for 3D in IWD2 as far as i know.So i am unable to play at all.
This is the problem i am having. The only way i can play IWD1 is to have 3D option turned on, this is not ideal though as screen flashes now & then.

Can anyone else surgest anything

Thanks Alboy

You're computer may be incompatible, or you may have not installed the Latest DirectX.

Are you positive that your computer can run Icewind Dale?

And how much space do you have left on your computer?

Yeah, I have this same problem, which sucks cause I just bought the game and i havent been able to play even a single level or even see anything past the loading screens for a good week.

If I put the graphics to super-low under 16 lets say, the game gets choppy, but if I put the graphics to high or normal, the game doesn't freak out. But it never makes it past the first loading screen.

My specs are a P4 2.4, 512 of RAM, GeForce2 64 MB, Drivers updated, directX latest version... this really frustrates me cause I can play neverwinter nights just fine under normal graphics, baulder's gate 1 and 2 no problem, and just about any other game runs great... minus this one.

Hm.. then I have no idea.

Unless you have scratches on the disk, I really don't see any problem. I would suggest calling Interplay, if they weren't gone... uh, all I can say is wait for someone else to help you, or return the game to where you bought it.

Hi all

I have got it to work at last.

The problem was with the 71.84 & 71.89 Nvidia drivers, the game will not play.

All previous drivers from 66.93 backwards work OK.

Seems as if the later drivers don't kike 2D.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Good gaming

I have seen this, only I ran into the problem with 3d acceleration on. Using rivatuner to force the back buffer flipping mode to to block transfer in the openGL settings fixed it for me.

With a geforce 3 you don't need the newer drivers anyway. Actually the older 4x.xx serise might even be faster for your card.

NVIDIA made some rather large changes to the openGL driver in the 7x.xx drivers.

Just what we need, companies revving up the 3D without leaving the 2D alone.
Guess this merits the statement: IF you never see any problems with the shipping driver of your current graphic card, DON'T change it.
DirectX has been good to me all of 4 years.
I'm using shipping drivers for my nVidia GeFX. No problems at all.

I can't really recommend that. There are often performance or feature improvements with newer drivers, esp if you have a recent video card. NVIDIA also has a nasty habit of releasing official drivers that are less stable than their beta drivers.

You see, NVidia is just evil. Buy ATI people!

Nothing wrong with non-FX NVIDIA cards, if you know what your doing. Though ATI does has some excelent cards.
