OK - that's what I understand by hosting, with mod information on the main site, and a download mirror provided by SHS :). Why don't you send me your mod information (in English ;) ) by pm or email, and the staff will be able to discuss it.

While your dedication to serving the Polish language audience is certainly not in doubt, it is generally considered bad form to alter and redistribute mods without permission. The original modders are generally quite willing (if sometimes guilty of being slow about) republishing their mods with any and all new translations submitted to them.

Well, you're right. I'm guilty, but I think that it's better to keep them together. Why? I often fix translations... very often. The other reason is that sometimes I send translation to author... and nothing. For example - Unfinished Business. I made translation for v12. It was never added to UB since then.

I know that modders are busy-men so I decide to do it by myself. :)

But of course, you're right. If someone disagree with me, I can remove his mod from my site.

Still I agree with Jcompton. Asking permission is in my eyes a must. An act of courtesy and just being polite. I wouldn't mind having my mod translated, as stands in the read-me, but it also states to contact me, so it can be added in one version. Even if it is downloadable through another side, but you do keep an overview of where everything is.

Still modding the Mod for the Wicked... It is a big project you know... And I got sidetracked (several times) a bit... sorry.
However, as we all know, Evil never really sleeps.

I'm refreshing this topic.

What's with the idea to translating mods from other languages?

Well, the idea is very good per se (who wouldn't want more people from different countries to play their mod?), but there is a downside, as well.

I've seen Solaufein's Russian translation, and it made my hair stand on end. And it's not the worst example, truly. It's not that bad - no obvious grammar errors, no serious misunderstandings; but the magic of the written word is gone. It is blunt, it is awkward, it is non-literary.

So, one might ask himself: do I want my mod to be translated this badly, or is it better to code it in .d format and leave it at that?

Better something than nothing.

Where can I find JC's (or Immortality's - I just do not remember) Translation FAQ?

In all honesty I see where Kulyok is coming from -I do not like Russian translations, not becaiuse the guys do a bad job, but because the the game and the mods just read plain weird with terminology sticking out and all that. It just looks unnatural and akward in Russian. Also, as a modder, for me, translation means going to TRA files. Going to TRA files means headache, and the fact that the alterations cannot be made easily to the mod any more. So... I'd rather keep what mods I make in English, and not traify them. -_-

I know I'm getting a bit O/T here but: I create d files first and only when they're proven working do I get Weidu to spit them out as pre-numbered tra files into a new directory. It means that I still have a d file to work on if something does need changing and, that at the end, I can assemble the tra files by simple cut'n'paste. Having said that though, I screwed up right at the beginning and at one point had tra files and no d files; I ended up writing a very dirty utility to reassemble the d files.

Heh, you are probably not in a habit of releasing a mod, and then, half-a-year later, thinking: "Seldarine, why don't I just like... double (tripple etc) the content?" :crying:

:P True - but there have been times recently when I've seriously wondered why I thought that building an entire new town was a good idea - and I have to build the same town twice because the plot demands it......

Hmmm - wandering thread - sorry

Yeah, I'd been recently coding a twenty-something cutscenes, when it occured to me that it might just have been an overkill to do that instead of using a 6-state dialogue to achieve the same purpose...

Building a new town though - ah, that sounds very neat!

Why there aren't any moderators nearby when they are most needed? <_<

I don't really see the harm in a thread going a bit OT once in a while, if the new topic is nice and constructive. :)

If the discussion interferes with the original purpose of the thread, we could always split the thread.

It's not deleted - only hidden while waiting to return in a new shape.
