Piergeiron the Paladinson: Open Lord Piergeiron (LG male Tethyrian human paladin 17 [Tyr]) is a tall, muscular, handsome man of quiet confidence, poise, and patience. His hair is only slightly graying at the temples, despite his increasing years. The Paladinson speaks so seldom and slowly that he has acquired the nickname (never to his face) of "the Thickskull." Piergeiron is not stupid, but often pretends to be, so draw others out into admissions they might not make otherwise. The Paladinson is the son of Athar, "the Shining Knight," who was famed for slaying the great wyrm Kistarianth the Red.
Despite the many challenges of his tenure, Piergeiron has remained above reproach, ably administering the city and ensuring the rule of law. As such, the Paladinson is very safe from those who wish the city to flourish and a frequent target of attack by those who wish Waterdeep ill. Piergeiron dwells in the Palace of Waterdeep (C75), commonly known as Piergeiron's Palace, ever shadowed by his personal bodyguard, Madeiron Sunderstone (detailed elsewhere).
Piergeiron's wife Maethiira died in the Year of the Moonfall (1344 DR), and the couple had only one child. Aleena Paladinstar (LG female Tethyrian wizard 7/arcane devotee[PG] 4 [Tyr]) has been absent from the city for several years, having taken to planewalking to see new worlds. Some say she might someday succeed her father when his reign as Open Lord comes to an end.
Hope this helps.

- is he a Chosen of Tyr, like Gwydion is for Torm ?
- how old is he ? He becames lord of Waterdeep in 1314 and in 1369 he slays a dracolich. That means he was at least 80 in 1369. A little bit old to do battle with an undead dragon...

Well, such stats make perfect sense for me. I always considered that only characters with very good stats could survive long enough to achieve such high-levels.

Well, he didn't battle the dracolich all by himself .Thanks. But 2 other questions :
- is he a Chosen of Tyr, like Gwydion is for Torm ?

In perhaps the most spectacular scene of the day, Lord Piergeiron faced the dread dracolich Kistarianth the Red in furious combat on the slopes of Mount Waterdeep above his Palace. The dragon had been slain decades before by Piergeiron's father, Athar the Shining Knight, in battle near Neverwinter Wood. It is not known exactly how, but some fell magic must have restored the dragon in dracolich form, and the chaos of the day gave the fell creature its wish to gain revenge on Athar by this attempt to slay his son and grand-daughter. Despite the creature's power and cunning, as well as the loss of a squad of griffon-riders and his usual contingent of bodyguards (including Madeiron Sunderstone, who suffered grevious wounds in the battle and lies near death at this hour), the Open Lord managed to slay Kistarianth with the sword his father once bore, the same sword that slew the beast once before. The bones of the undead monstrosity currently grace the slopes of the Mount, but have been sealed off by the priesthood of Lathander, whose acolytes are working feverishly to bless the rotting carcass and remove any lingering vestiges of necromantic energies from it.

At an age of 80, a character would be able even to lift his sword.

A person in a world as fantastic as the Forgotten Realms could very well be in good enough shape to fight, even without magical means of extending his or her life (which Piergerion almost certainly employs).
