Shadow (That is all the name you know about her, source - me)

Thief, level 1

Stats:

Strength- 12
Intelligence- 14
Wisdom- 10
Dexterity- 19
Constitution- 16
Charisma- 14

Bio:

When asked about her past, Shadow reluctanly tells you that she grew up in the slums of Zhenterum Keep. Her parents were slaves to a noble there. She assisted her parents with maintaining the lord's house in the city. She despised her life and started stealing things from the house.

When she almost got caught, she escaped and lived on the streets of the slums in the city. This is where she learned how to pick pockets. One day she attempted to steal from a peasant only to learn that he was a thieves guild member. Non-members were not allowed and if captured could be killed on sight. She was able to escape by climbing under a wagon heading out the gates of the city. She never returned to the city.

Shadow came through Oakhurst while wandering the countryside. She is has left many towns in a hurry because of her thefts for food or clothing. Oakhurst was the first time she actually got caught.

It is apparent to you that her thieving skills must not be all that great if she keeps getting caught. Shadow feels that she is only stealling for necessary survival items. Jobs are hard to find for a halfing outside of the dales and other halfling communities. You find it hard to believe that after the life she has lead so far, that she would really settle down in a village and work for an honest living.

Plans for Shadow:

Shadow comes from my IWD gaming. I always used a halfling thief and I always used the soundset she has here. She has a major quest but it will be way, way later in the game. Shadow and her "master" need to come to a final conclusion. This will release her from her troubles and allow you to explore some of Zhenterum Keep. Just to let you know, her master is an assistant priest of Bane to Fzoul Chembryl. You won't meet Fzoul, Ed Greenwood killed him off in the Spellfire books anyway.

Shadow refers to this person as "master" because she still thinks that she is a slave. She has escaped, but her family is still trapped there. I have some really dark dialogs that will come out later about life as a slave in a Bane priest's household. They aren't in the game yet. It will take some time for Shadow to open up and talk about it.

Shadow is your Imoen in this game. You don't have to have her if you don't want to but her high dexterity helps and she will be the only one capable of handling the traps in the Citadel. Also, there are no other thief NPCs right now in the game. Unlike Imoen, the game can be played without her.

Banter with Althon:

Althon: You have been talking to Aesdale, haven?t you? I think you and I can have a mutually beneficial relationship. I need someone with your skills. I heard you have few allies.
Shadow: I asked Aesdale if he trusts you and he said "no."
Althon: Listen to him, if you trust an elf that uses mind magic freely to control people's thoughts. Let me prove him wrong my dear Shadow.
Shadow: Yeah. Whatever Althon.
Althon: Mistress Shadow, I am in the process of tracking your family for you. When I do, I will purchase their freedom. All I ask of you is a favor in the future for my hard efforts.
Shadow: You can do that? Alright...you got it. I guess I was wrong Althon, maybe you aren?t such a bad guy after all.

Oh, I think she is much better than Imoen - the fact that you do not have to have her is a big plus. And she is much more complex and does not pretend to be your friend from the crib.

If you don't mind, here are my suggestions for small banter edits:

//Right now, the topics of trust and recruitment are mixed in and out; there are a few choppy sentences. To keep the flow smoother, my suggestion is:

Althon: Why are you shunning me, mistress Shadow?
Shadow: I uhm... I'm not.
Althon: You have been talking to Aesdale, haven?t you?
Shadow: Ok, I asked Aesdale if he trusts you and he said "no."
Althon: Ah, how typical of him. But, my dearest Shadow, I think *you and I* can have a mutually beneficial relationship.  I need someone with your skills.
Shadow: And how am I to benefit?
Althon: I heard you have few allies, mistress.
Shadow: But Aesdale -
Althon: Is an elf that uses mind magic freely to control people's thoughts. Do you trust words or deeds?
Shadow: Words are nothing.
Althon: Than, Mistress Shadow, consider this: I am in the process of tracking your family for you. When I do, I will purchase their freedom. All I ask of you is a favor in the future for my hard efforts.
Shadow: You can do that? Alright...you got it. I guess I was wrong, Althon, maybe you aren?t such a bad guy after all.
