I now have some adventures with my players in the planes and I have a question about Mechanus ecosystem. Does anyone know what do Modron eat?
Then she saw his eyes, red and mad as hell. And in that moment she knew that he could kill anyone, no matter how strong. Madness, true madness could put a fist through a plank.

I'll look it up later, but for some reason I'm thinking that they don't eat. Modrons seem to have a kind of energy pool that they all add to and draw on as needed, which is why a new modron simply pops up whenever another is killed.

I was looking through some books on planescape but found no info except one note. It stated that the modron are creatures rather than constructs and, despite all the cogwheels, possess all biological functions (except aging and reproduction).

Also, monodrons have mouths and they don't speak. Modron would not shape a useless body part.

Here is a rather informative link about modrons.

It's not stated exactly what modrons eat. But I don't think they do eat, since their behavior and physiology are very much like constructs, especially golems. i.e. Modrons don't age and are resistant to physical and most elemental attacks. Unless a modron goes rogue, it doesn't think for itself either, it follows the orders of its superior implicitly (much like a golem obeys its wizard).

Ah, apparently they do eat, but they don't have to. They seem to get their energy from that common source.

Modrons do not normally eat.

I'm sure they could if ordered/had some very good reason to, but normally they don't.

Many fiends and celestials can also exist without needing to ingest anything.
