I find a storyline which captivates my imagination, makes me want to find out more helps a lot - for example, the Beyond the Law mod by Zyraen. Believable characterization helps too

As some people may know, I'm making an NPC mod myself, and was wondering what in other peoples opinions makes them want to play an NPC mod, and what makes an NPC 'good'.

Well, I really like banter and an interesting personality (e.g. some eccentric habit or way of speech e.g. Jan ). If it's a female NPC, romance option is always a plus, but not necessary. One quest or two won't hurt, but I really don't care about them too much if the NPC has depth and has mucho banter with CHARNAME and Co. Good music for the banters is something I appreciate much as well. Those are some of da main things. Somehow I don't like all-knowing NPCs who are also calm as death. It always seems that the CHARNAME is the underdog in those conversations... well, that's probably just me.

Well, I'd prefer music for all banters, but it's just a plus, not necessary if the modder sees it as unnecessary hindrance. And speaking of "breaking the spirit of the game", many mods have already done things that weren't in the original game, yes? So I wouldn't see music for friendly banters as a fourth wall breaker.Well, I really like banter and an interesting personality (e.g. some eccentric habit or way of speech e.g. Jan ). You mean, you'd like music in friendly conversations, not romance only?
There might be a problem that existing PC-NPC non-romance conversations do not have any, so it may break the spirit of the game. As well, it'll increase the mod size a bit, i.e. romance track in .ogg is about 350-370kb, and two will hit 700.
Any other opinions on this? Do you prefer music for romance conversations, only, or for friendly banters, as well?
