As you might recall from my previous post, I didn't install the world map and had some difficulties running the mod. I finished the first part of Bone Hill and saved right before talking to Pelltar. I filled him in on my discoveries and asked to go home. The game crashed. In my zeal to "fix" the game, TuTu became unstable, and I couldn't get the game to load any save without crashing (not surprising considering the fact that I am very unsophisticated when it comes to mod installation/problems). As a result, I decided to re-install TuTu and the mods. I reloaded the same mods, and in the same order. The only difference was that I did not implement the "walking speed" feature and I installed the world map mod. My save games now load properly, but there are a few problems.

First, Pelltar has now magicially been renamed to "orc guard". His dialogue, however, still works. Pelltar's butler is also misnamed. If there wasn't a second half to this mod, I wouldn't care, because I could go home and be done with the mod. However, if the names are misallocated in the next installment, I'll be hosed. Is there a fix to this without running the mod again from the beginning?

Next, as you might recall from my previous post, I did not install the world map initially, but installed it after I got to Restenford. After the reinstallation discussed above, I decided to try to CLUAConsole my way out of town to (I think) AR3400, but got a message stating that location did not exist. Does the world map change the numbers for the various BG locations?

Last, and I know this isn't the right board, but I thought I'd try. Niether Finch nor Indria, both of whom are in my party, are recognized in a saved game. The characters are there, but they have screwy names and they have different/no dialogue options. Interestingly, if I CLUAConsole them in, the newly generated characters are just fine, aleit at a lower lower. Does this mean I installed these mods wrong or is this result to be expected?

You have another hosed game. Make sure you do not have the game open when you install a mod. Do not try to install two mods at the same time, one then the next. Do not have an editor open, DLTCEP, NI, ShadowKeeper, etc.

Pelltar doesn't have a butler. :D So I am not sure who this is.

Tutu renames all the BG1 areas to FWareaname. So it should have been FW3400, not AR3400 (assuming this is a valid BG1 areaname.

Thanks for the quick reply. How do I fix it? Should I uninstall Bone Hill and try again or do a reinstallation? The only thing installed after it was the world map program, so, presumably, I'd have to uninstall/reinstall that too. Or do I need to start from scratch in reinstall TuTu?

As for his butler, I may have misspoken. There is another man in his house (daytime) that directs the party to speak with Pelltar. I asumed he was a butler or something.

Oh okay, no the other wizard's are students of his. He mentions them one in a dialog. There is also a guy out in Reddy Forest that you can send to him for training.

As for fixes: yes, just uninstall the worldmap than uninstall part 1 of BoneHill. Reinstall part 1 (don't change the area graphics) and reinstall the Worldmap. Hopefully that will fix everything. With Weidu, you can uninstall and the program will uninstall and reinstall later mods, but I had that crap out on me several times. So I prefer to uninstall each mod myself.

Well...I tried the old uninstall then reinstall and he's still called "orc guard." On the bright side, he's a well mannered orc guard. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. In the meantime, I'll try again.

You are using the old saved game with the new install I presume. What happens is normal, as even the smallest difference (like not installing the walking speed modifier) can change your dialog.tlk file and the saved game is pointing to the wrong places inside the dialog.tlk file.

The only way around this is to open your game with NI and change the names/references to the right values in dialog.tlk

Or you could start a new game and it will all be fine.

Ouch. Does this mean that the rest of the game will be messed up, or just the Bone Hill portion?

the whole game, unfortunately: it's one of the limitations of the IE engine. how much it's messed up, however, it's hard to say: it might only be a few strings, or it might be virtually yr whole game.

yr three options, as cujo indicates, are: 1. live with it; 2. fix the messed up strings with NearInfinity; 3. start a new game.

The reason for string issues upon changing installations is that AR files and the worldmap are stored in your save game and they keep the string references of wahtever the install was when you saved. Your new install probably has different string references so the ones in your save game point to the wrong things.

I have changed installations a couple times in my saved game and have been able to continue fine. For the areas you have been in that are in your saved game some string references will be hosed. Also all of your current journal entires and area names on the world map will probably be wacky.(Worldmap icon positions and strings can be fixed manually pretty easily if you use DLTCEP.)

If you come back to BH later the new dialogue in restenford will probably be messed up but once you get to Garrotten it should be normal.

You could open your baldur.sav in NI and delete the data for some of the BH AR's or at least Restenford(forget its AR#). This will fix the invalid strings because it all gets loaded from the game instead of your outdated save file.
However, I am not sure if doing this will mess up your progress in Bonehill. I had to do this in Beregost a number of times in BGT when it got corrupted. Silke would always be spawned again and I'd get to go kill her again for fun. Everything else including the additional content from Dsotsc and Ntotsc worked fine.

Thanks for all your help. After several attempts to fix it, I got the game running, but still had people with wrong names. I decided to start over. Thanks again.
