I've begun playing Oblivion, and I must say it is better than I would have thought. I haven't played much, not more than ten minutes yet, but I would like to ask one question.

I call myself a roleplayer, sure, but that doesn't stop the little munchkin inside me from gettin' out sometimes. If there's one thing I hate, it's playing a game for days and then find out that I've made a choice that will suck in the end. I'm not familiar with the generation system of the Elder Scrolls, so I thought I would ask some of the pros whether the class I've made will be able to handle the game well enough. Below is my custom class, race and sign.

Race: Imperial.

Sign: The Warrior.

Class: Custom Knight,

Major Attributes: Strength, Endurance.

Major Skills: Armorer, athletics, blade, blunt, heavy armor, restoration, speechcraft.

Thanks in advance :)

Basically you can play with any build but for leveling your build seems pretty ok, although I would probably switch that speechcraft to block but that's only a personal opinion.

That was actually the only thing I pondered for a long time. When I had one skill left, I ended throwing a die to see which one I should pick. Block it is ;)

If you have blade you dont need blunt and vise versa. IMO

It looks pretty good except for what ronin said, there's not much point taking both blunt and blade as a major skill. Of course if you want to take both for the role-play value, or simply because you want to take both so you can switch between thats fine, but from a gaming point of view only take one of the two.

Role-play value? What's that? ;)

What would you suggest I took instead?

I dont know what you should take instead, but by using blade and blunt you slow down the progress of both, pick a weapon and focus on it. You could take archery so that you can attack from a distance and when the enemies close the distance you can switch to blade/blunt.

just my 2 cents

Maybe something like security or alteration, at the moment you have no reliable way of opening locks. Either that or acrobatics, especially if you want to level up really quickly.

To level you have to gain a level in 10 of your 'main skills'. Could be the same one 10 times, or blade 3 times, block 3 times, and heavy armour 4 times.

This is the best article I've seen so far on Character Building.

Essentially, it really doesn't matter what your major skills are, so long as you improve your minor skills accordingly. The major skills are for level gains, while the minor skills are for stat gains. Just make sure to time your level-ups well.

Theoretically, you can gain higher levels by picking major skills that are not your race's forte. (Since there is more room for improvement, there is more potential levels to gain.) -_-

But what I don't understand is that my "level progress"-bar is full, but I'm still level 1?

It should be. Sure it's not missing one piece yet?

You have to sleep in a bed. Head to an Inn and rent a room, and make sure you 'use' the bed (spacer bar) rather than just 'waiting' (T).
