Okay,

So I am going to be all out in the open here. I just used Underrepresented items for quite one purpose only, not to use the uberpowered items (which indeed would make the tactics frustration level go down...)), but for seeing how they are coded and stuff... So, I look at them and see some beautiful bams as well. I know it is not bad to look at others their codes, but.... taking around 3 bams from Weimer's Underrepresented items to create new ones... is that not done, or is that okay? I can't ask Weimer himself, as he is not really around anymore, at least to my knowledge.

P.s. If this post is in the wrong forum, go ahead and remove it. Just didn't know where else to post it.

Kind Regards,
The Deathsangel

Underrepresented stuff is IWD2 items ported to BG2, so that'd be OK anyway.

Usually, the procedure is:
- send 'em an e-mail or a PM
- if they say 'it's cool' do it
- if they say 'it's not cool' don't do it
- if they don't reply in some time (two weeks to two months) then feel free to do so.

Yeah, I normally would follow your procedure... It's just that Weimer isn't quite present anymore... But okay, I can use the stuff then. Great and thanks for the help :new_thumbs:

And if they won't give you permission and don't have a better reason than "because it's mine and I said so" don't use it but make a note that you don't owe them any favors. ;/

It's subtle and insidious, disguised as reasonable precautions which become more and more oppressive over time, until our lives are defined by the things we must avoid. She's easy enough to agree with, after all, she's only trying to help -- and yet she's one of the most dangerous influences we face, because if she prevails, it puts the raping, robbing, axe-wielding madmen of the world in complete control. Eventually they'll barely need to wield a thing, all they'll have to do is leer menacingly and we fall all over ourselves trying to placate them." -godlizard

When I was searching for a tutorial on converting IWD2 items to BG2 I found this post. Basically I can't figure out how to take the bam from IWD2 to make it usable for BG2.

The item "Blessed Armour of the clerics of Myrkul" is platemail with a cool olive drab color. I just wanted to make an armor like that for my game. If I can learn that, then there are a few more nifty items to convert. Problem is I can't make heads or tails of DLTCEP, I've been checking it out with Dalekeeper 2. Is there an easy way to do this?

IPLATKC.BAM, 60HFPTKC.ITM.

I believe you can simply take the BAM from IWD2 and put it directly in BG2. Or does it not work?

Thanks for the reply bigg. I am a novice at this and still trying to get dltcep to work right (something about setup being incorrect) without a readme. However I was able to find stuff in the IWD2 override, though not to many armours.

I was able to load item with your codes but after changing it somewhat to fit BG2, tried to save it and it says "its a read only file!" . Or it gives me the option to save as a tp2 and won't save it.

By the way I think somehow I overrode the original, because when I open it up again from IW2 override it has the BG2 stats I gave it - oops.

Just checked again to do a straight copy of bam and item, but can't find bam in IWD2 folder. Also, I got all kinds of errors when I tried to save it again so I just exited program. Something about missing bam, etc.

Why do you have no DLTCEP readme? DLTCEP comes with a readme, and a file named 'setup.txt', which helpfully details how to set up the program (and also mentions the read only flag).

In IE games, most files are contained in BIFF files, for various reasons. The override directory is only used to provide a newer version of a file (e.g. to fix a bug). If no newer version is needed (because the original version is fine), the file will not be in the override directory, it will only be contained within a BIFF.
Use the 'load' item from within DLTCEP, rather than the 'load external' item and you should be able to find it.

Thanks igi. For some reason I don't have the readme anywhere. In the DLTCEP folder there is only exe, uninstall, and a shortcut to their website. So I went to their website and was then able to set it up ok(I hope). Also like you said I needed winbiff, and I found out I installed it a while ago (winbiff1.2.2). Then I was able to search and find the bam tucked away in the chitin.key. Saved both to desktop so I know where they are.

I can load the item into DLTCEP when I am trying to make a BG2 item, but there are different effects and descriptions vs the BG2 ones. I change these somewhat to match BG2 stats, but then the program says "its a read only file!", and "can't find bam" when I try to save. Also unsure about the spell effects tab, maybe they are different between the games?

I was able to find item creating tutorials, but nothing that covers converting these items (IW2 to BG2), if you know of one I'll gladly read it to learn how to do this. :)

P.S. Should I just drop the bam into the override?

And here's what it looks like: Blessed Armor of the Clerics of Myrkul

Clerics of Myrkul center their whole existence on endeavors that aid the dead and dying. They make it their responsibility to organize funerals, burials, settling the dead's unfinished affairs and enacting wills.

Common to these clerics are their amazing plate mail armor that grants them several advantages over necromantic spells such as Paralyze and Death Magic. Clerics of Myrkul may make it their practice to aid in the affairs of the dead, but they have no desire to prematurely die themselves.

STATISTICS:

Heavy Armor
Armor Bonus: +10
Max Dex Bonus: +1
Armor Check Penalty: -5
Arcane Spell Failure: 35%
Special:
Saving Throw Bonus: +1 to Fortitude saves
Spell Power: Can cast 5th level Priest Spell Raise Dead once per day.
Weight: 50 lb.

Would change to AC-1, +1 save vs death, and raise dead 1/day.

I'd change the title of this thread to "How to port IWD2 items to BG2", to avoid confusion - and, I imagine, so those interested in the subject wouldn't miss the thread.

Well after much trial and error, and no tutorial, I finally muddled my way through to creating this item. I couldn't do a straight copy because the info changes between IWD2 item and BG2 item.

1)I ended up opening dltcep 3 times - 1 for IWD2, BG2 new item, and BG2 Keldorn's armor (for a comparison).

2)Copied IPLATKC.bam to override, after using winbiff to extract from IWD2 folder. (thanks to the bigg for bam codes)

3)Copied info from IWD2 item "IPLATKC" to new item in BG2 window (settings-BG2/TOB). Went through each tab on top this way until I got to equipping effects.

4)In equipping effects tab (of new item-BG2) went one by one adding what the IWD2 item had(color,etc.). Made comparisons to Keldorn's armor to see what the effects actually did, and added BG2 effects.

5)Did a once over to make sure everything matched original. Then saved as new item MPLAT01.itm to override. (So IWD2 bam and new item are there)

6)Made sure to save also as a tp2.

Loaded up a game and clua'd item. Voila-I now have an unidentified item that goes in the weapon slot. WTF?
The only thing I thought could cause this is - under general properties tab (in dltcep) with item loaded it says "weapon proficiency 0x00-Large sword. But the armors I double checked have same listing there.

Then there is no description for the item. What did I mess up? Can anyone help me out here?
