'K, so, first of all, major props to Laufey for this awesome mod-- old computer ran it beautifully and I loved every minute of the romance <3

Unfortunately, I've upgraded to a freakishly large and slightly overpowered Alienware computer recently, reinstalled both SoA and ToB along with all parts of the Edwin Romance (flirts, too! ) and Dungeon Be Gone, and all of a sudden I'm faced with Edwin not speaking to me because he randomly "Appears Busy." I haven't even managed to get him into my party yet, and now this horrid evil thing is spreading to almost ALL NPCs I come to, including Mae'var. I don't think it's directly related to Edwin, but I've tried just about everything I could think of short of yet another massive reinstall, and was hoping that someone might have an idea of how to fix this menace upon pixelated society!

Accursed technology-- it's out to get me, I tells ya!

You have Windows 2000 or XP
there's a patch for it - just look for the official BG2 patch and the problem will be solved.

I have this problem every time I install the game and forget about getting the patch

lol yeah the problem appears only on XP and 2000 it's due to some NT things.
>_>

if you're installing patches, try looking for other things like a patch that makes the max level 50 or make your hit throws more efficient

Hoo boy... reinstalled everything... three times... and now I'm having an even MORE serious issue

So, I boot up the game, and all of the clickable buttons show up with no text! Then, after I ignore that bit of craziness since I know the menus by heart, I try to start up a ToB game just for laughs... there's no floaty dialog above my character's head when it first starts telling me to talk to one of the heads, and then, once I go and click on a head, it comes up with one of the Edwin dialogs... "Oh, yes, Edwin, the sun nearly did not rise without you there to spur it on, and ... knows that I missed your- unique- brand of comedy." I get as many lines of that as there would be in the original telling of Alaundo's Prophecy, and there's no voices at all...

What in the world is going on here?

uninstall all the mods and the patch, THEN install the patch and after that -> the mods.
I think this may cause the problem.

I recall a passing refference that sme mods need the patch and bad things happen if you try to install the patch after installing the mod
maybe that's what happens? O_o

Yes, first all mods need to be installed, then the ToB patch, then mods need to be reinstalled. I always get the same problem of scrambled lines if I forget to install the patch, it's a known bug not related specifically to this mod.

Edit: I meant to say that first all mods need to be *un*installed of course. *bonks self*

Gah, I was having the same problem. I reinstalled the game a good 5 times before I gave up on that accursed patch. I've found that just leaving a party-required area and coming back usually solves the problem anyway - and I'd rather not risk the Edwing romance again. =P

If I uninstall the mod, will that get rid of all the romance progress I've already done with Edwin? Apparently what happened to me was I saved most of my game info, including the Edwin mod, but I guess not the patch, and then I reformatted and I'm getting the Edwin is busy message. I'm in chapter three, I don't want to have to restart the game to finish the romance.

The way it works for me, if I uninstall and reinstall the mod, the romance progress is still there - ie I don't have to restart the romance. Hope that works for you.

The patch will work. I've got the same OS you do, and everything works just fine.

Yet I suspect I know the problem, because I've done it myself. And it is counter-intuitive, really.

You say you've uninstalled and reinstalled everything a good 5 times. I'm betting that in all that time, you've never deleted your Override file or your WeiDU log after uninstalling the game. When you reinstall the game, these files are still there, and if you reinstall your mods in even a slightly different order, you'll wind up with a corrupted dialog file, which is what you're seeing.

I know it sounds frustrating to go through it all *again*, but I bet it will be worth it.

If you do the following, you might even be able to keep your saved games, but I'm not 100% certain of that, so they still might be messed up.

Before you do anything, open up your WeiDU log with notepad or some other text editor. Print it.

Uninstall the game in the usual way. For me, that means running the Installshield uninstaller. When you uninstall, you do not get rid of everything in that folder. Your corrupted Override is the likely culprit. Manually delete your Override and WeiDU log. Right-clicking and deleting are fine.

*Now*, do a full reinstall from disk, patch, install your mods and enjoy your game. If you printed your previous WeiDU log, you might be able to salvage your saved game if you install your mods in the same order.

You might also want to consider some of the Fixpacks out there.

Enjoy your game!
