InfExp is without a doubt in my mind the best tool for browsing conversations, but it unfortunately falls a little short if one wants to use it to find interject, EXTEND, or bugfix points, because it doesn't tell you the current .DLG and state you're viewing.

My usual system is to find the string in InfExp and then look for it in either NI or the decompiled .d, but it would be a lot faster if, next to the StrRef, it simply said "AERIEJ 43".

Anybody feel up to grabbing the source from infexp.sourceforge.net and making InfExp a lot more useful and making me happy? You figure it's gotta know where it is already, it's just a question of putting that value on the screen.

For the sake of sport I will e-mail the ostensible maintainers of InfExp but seeing as how they didn't reply to my bug reports/feature requests in early 2001, my hopes are not high.

And yes, I do realize it's a complete pain to figure out how other people's code works, that's why I'm requesting something very very small and tactical.

InfExp was never finished, so none of the actual editing ability is there, IIRC kensai_ryu did add in some editing stuff to his copy, you might want to talk to him about it

Yes, I talked to Jemerov (author) about it, he said he never expected the BG2 modding thing to go anywhere so he never bothered implementing editing. I'm not really asking for editing, though, just more information on the screen.

Update:

Jemerov indeed came to my rescue, I am now using a beta version of InfExp that supports filename/state displays, as well as browsing external (mod) DLG files.

It's still a beta so he's asked me not to post the link around, but if anybody really needs this functionality right now, drop me a line and I'll send the file over to you. Note that if you are working on an NPC project and doing interjections, I STRONGLY recommend you start using this. It's much faster than other methods for finding many good interject points.
