So, what do you think? Personally, I think that optimizing the game to run under the minimum settings is a good idea, considering NWN didn't need much in the way of hardware, and those players still might have less than average PCs, if considered by today's standards.

I'm certainly excited about the fact that NWN2 will support widescreens, and possibly even dual screens, although the latter is not certain yet. I'll be getting a widescreen monitor this month, so it's nice to hear NWN2 is going to support it. Of the games I have now only Oblivion supports it yet.

Speaking of hardware, is anyone here below the min reqs? I might still be, if it wasn't for the fact that I bought a new PC a year before Oblivion came out. You can test how your rig will handle NWN2 here.

NWN2 web site FAQs

1. Will Neverwinter Nights 2 support NVIDIA?s SLI feature?

Yes, if you have two video cards that make use of SLI, Neverwinter Nights 2 will support them.

2. Does Neverwinter Nights 2 support AMD 64-bit processors?

Yes, we?re planning to fully support AMD 64-bit processors running Windows XP; however, the game does not support Windows XP x64 edition.

3. Will Neverwinter Nights 2 make use of dual core CPU?s?

The Neverwinter Nights 2 Toolset is a multithreaded application; as a result, it will utilize the benefits of dual-core processors from both AMD and Intel.

4. Does Neverwinter Nights 2 still use the Aurora graphics engine?

Neverwinter Nights 2?s graphics engine has been replaced by the next-generation Electron engine, which supports advanced graphical features like fully dynamic lighting, normal mapping, specular mapping, shadow maps, and more.

5. Will Neverwinter Nights 2 make use of advanced features of newer video cards?

Yes -- The game fully supports Shader Model 2.0 and 3.0 cards (such as the NVIDIA GeForce 6 and 7 series and the ATI Radeon X1800) to achieve stunning visual effects at a much higher framerate than possible on older video cards.

The game requires at least a DirectX 9.0c compatible video card that supports at least Shader Model 2.0.

3 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor

Dreamfall had this as a minimum requirement. I run with a 2GHz processor, and I ran Dreamfall on maximum settings.

1GB System RAM

1.5GB for me, so that won?t be a problem.

ATI Radeon X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series or higher video card

Well, I?m running GeForce 6600GT, so I should be able to barely make it.

I?m planning on buying a brand new computer as soon as they make a video card with 1024mb RAM to a fairly high (but not insane) price. I?ve stashed my 10-12000 danish crowns for that one.

Yeah, I don't think you're going to have any problems with NWN2 with that kind of setup. I've got an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ cpu, which in power is similar to an Intel Pentium 4 3,5Ghz or so. No problems there. Then I've got 3 gigs of PC3200 Kingston RAM, and a GeForce 6800GT 256. I guess I'll be able to max out the settings, considering I can run Oblivion smoothly on high settings (not max though) with 4x AA.

Yeah, if your PC now isn't worth upgrading anymore, it's a sound plan to buy a completely new one when the technology has taken the next leap, and you'll be better off for a number of years from there on I suspect. I'll probably buy myself a new gpu for christmas if it looks like I'm going to need one.

My computer is able for upgrade, but every god damn part needs to be upgraded, so I'm buyin' new one. Plus, many of my friends are interested in buying mine :)

That's what I was referring to, updating it isn't worth it when you have to replace just about everything. Oh, you may have noticed this already, but AMD slashed its processor prices heavily last month http://www.guru3d.co...tem.php?id=4166. Although they'll now end the socket 939 line of cpus, you can get them damn cheap at the moment. I'd recommend buying the dual core X2 4400+, it's going for approx. 180USD.

Conroe ftw! Those are some sweet, sweet chips.

I am hoping to upgrade around December/January and I`m definitely going for Conroe and a GeForce 7800GTX.

Nah, AMD's better... down with Intel! :P

Heh, at least we agree about the brand of GPUs. Speaking of which, are you sure you don't want a 7900 GTX? You can get one for 450 USD these days... the price difference isn't that great when compared to a 7800 GTX.

It's going to be marginal for me, and I'll have to increase my RAM to meet the minimum requrements. Might be time to bite the bullet and replace the whole thing. :-(

Sorry Silver, but although my current machine is AMD, I'm gonna go with Intel this time around ;)

My system blows the recommend settings out of the water, so I'm hoping for maximum settings at 1920x1200 (just as I have in Oblivion) :).

Well, I passed all the tests, so I'm not too worried. I probably won't be able to play it on super high graphics, but it should be good enough

I'll probably update my graphics card around christmas, although my current 6800GT will do the job well until then.

I have the same, and I can run the new games on it with little problems.

While I used to be an AMD fanatic as well (after switching from Intel :P), for those that are to upgrade their CPUs and mobos, I honestly believe not choosing Intel this time around is pretty dumb (no offense meant, of course).

I might get 7900GTX, the prices will most likely drop by January or so. At least I know I will be able to play NWN2 with max settings and that feels good.

No offense taken; I only like AMD cpus because they're cheaper and faster than their Intel counterparts (Before Conroe). The next time I need a cpu upgrade is prolly when AMD has already made their counter-attack on the cpu market. Yeah, I seriously recommend getting a 7900GTX if at all possible.
