HI ALL....

grrr......grrr.....
I am working on my mega-install for bg2, only the big picture, not bg1.

I read that if one installs the check the bodies it will install 99 songs into all of the song slots, and the "fix' is to not check that install option, when installing ctb. 'simple" he says....

Simple?!!
----my 1.8 version just installs them anyways without even a "hello" to me, thank you!!
NO install check question at all!
I ended up uninstalling everything, and beginning yet again, leaving ctb OUT of my list of mods.

I suppose if there is a "quick fix' for this, i could then use play and install CTB, but by now i have installed about 15 "little mods", after the TS,SOS,....etc....such as the romance mods, planer sphere, dark ritual, exumv5, the stores, extra quests, etc....I am about up to the place that i will finally install the BIG PICTURE 177. nearly the last one.

*if* this can be fixed, and if i still want ctb, can i still install it after adding all of those little mods, but yet before big picture?!

maybe my install was a fluke, maybe the install asks about the music on the PREVIOUS version, but not this newest one: heads up if this is so!!

thanks...freestone

What is your exact problem then? I can't figure this out from your post.

well I thought that there was an option in the weidu install to skip the installation of those 99 files of "songs"!
At least i read that threre was, so i installed and low and behold there was not an option, the songs installed anyways. I have that feeeling that i should not just delete them outright!
so i uninstalled the whole thing and began again at square one. Now i have installed all of the big mods, then the small mods, the big picture mod will be next.
i was hoping that someone here would tell me how to avoid that game stopping error messege, as if i installed the 1.8 newest version of ctb, all of the songs install. I would prefer that none installs.

this afternoon, or tomorrow, i probably will install the big picture and if all goes well, that will be "it"; no check the bodies.

so my other question, besides how to deal with the songs, is that....is it too too late to install ctb, as i have yet to install the big picture.

[song slots, there appears to be max of 99 availible and ctb fills them all, thus overflowing that file max
allotment]

thanks...freestone

1) CtB just can't exceed max 100 (0-99) entries of SONGLIST.2DA just because it perfectly designed not to do that.
2) CtB needs 8 free song slots. If the installation detects that there aren't such number of free slots it doesn't modify current copy of SONGLIST.2DA but puts all necessary stuff into the newly created CtB section of GUI Switcher. In such case CtB songs become available only after CtB GUI is activated.
3) If you already have overloaded SONGLIST.2DA before CtB installation (that most probable is your case) it definitely won't help you to fix that. But option 2) is still being implemented.

If you still don't trust me try to install only big mods first and look at your songlist after CtB. You will reconsider that....

Where did you read that CtB adds 99 song entries? First time I'm hearing about this.

CtB shouldn't be installed in the end, that can break your game easily.

here too...

Hi Glotiv,

IIRC this type of error is the result of too many music entries in songlist.2da (hope the filename is right). Most likely there was a separate music component for CtB that you installed? The game only accepts 100 entries and BP-BGT already fills them all. It may be possible to edit the song list (never actually tried that) or you'll have to reinstall without additional music.

Hope this helps,

Yacomo

also how to fix it, one cannot just delete from the file.

=================

here is an even better fix.

then Setup-GUI for BG1.

30) + Even though this install shouldn't overflow the SONGLIST.2DA, play it safe with these instructions...
Quote:

you'll need to check SONGLIST.2DA after you've finished - back it up, then open it with notepad, and remove any entires or carriage returns after entry 99 (SONGLIST.2DA can only have 100 entries, counting from zero, otherwise the game will crash on loading. many NPCs - but not Immy - add music rather unnecessarily to SONGLIST.2DA; BGT-weidu maxes out SONGLIST.2da: put them together and it's fatal error time unless you edit the file yrself).

-seanas (Thanks!)

31) then Setup-GUI for BG2/NEJ. [upon reaching this point in the game]

I should be able to play Baldur's Gate 1, 2, and ToB to completion; with a huge amount of interactivitiy [from Imoen especially :OOOO] Or as long as I don't run into any bugs :P

I guess i will have to pass on the ctb, now, as I am about to install the big picture files. i have already placed the "small mods" in my install.

Have you ever tried to check the date of a post first, before trying to quote it?

And YES, especially for you, it will be better just to skip CtB from your installation....

before we go any further:

freestone - are you actually having problems with the SONGLIST.2da, or are you concerned that you weren't given a choice to not install the CtB songs? you'll know yr having a problem because yr game will crash every time you try to start it - so if it starts, you have no problem with the songlist and don't need to take any action.

the advice about CtB and the songlist is obsolete and we should update it: as KD says, he fixed CtB so that it no longer maxes out the songlist - which is why you weren't presented with an optino not to install the songs as you were expecting.

hi ....

well I was only concerned, as i had read of this. this is the "slight disadvantage" of upgrades, where the past version's problems are now fixed.
[oh, how many times have i seen games or mods where there are about four different versions of the same file all over the internet, the older versions are still up, the old forum posts too!]

I might then give this ctb another try.

I had hoped, at the beginning, to create a more "immersive' bg2, rather than long quests as such. thus I checked very carefully the weidu mods to add, after TDD...SOS...etc. ctb installed ok.

what I found to be the DOWNER, last night was the BP, big picture, mod! it has to go after all of the others, and yes, it barfed up right at the beginning! thus I would be "held hostage" to BP, as the only way to see if my install of it works is to install it nearly last, and the SMALLEST little conflict with the other mods before it, will ruin it!! even different versions of "safe' mods could do it, or even one tiny oversight to install a kit!
or use none at all, just the big mods!

so what i might end up leaving out is BP!

that's not supposed to happen...

BP is supposed to be installed late in the install process - step 9 of 12 in the install process - but it shouldn't barf on install. if it is barfing on install, it's because something you've installed prior to BP has destructively altered/ overwritten/ broken the file that BP is halting on.

if this happens, post the bug or error you get (if you miss it in the DOS window, you'll find it in SETUP-BPv177.DEBUG, which you can open with notepad) and we'll find a way around it and/or identify the mod corrupting the install.
