OK, here's the thing: a friend of mine just gave me over his KotOR I game for a week. I've just finished and, my god, it was GOOOOOOD!!!!!! I haven't had so much fun playing a rpg in AGES!!!! And I don't even like Star Wars that much. The game was just excellent, with real occasions to create a character and make him/her choose her way of life... I mean, wow.

So, your opinion is asked: is KotOR II worth bying? Is it as good as the first, or am I going to end up disappointed? Are Carth and Mission going to be there (those two bickering was fun, and they seemed to have an opinion on everything)? So, your general thoughts about this? (no spoilers please)

But you know what, it doesn't really matter. Because, judging from the 40 000 people around me, we're doing just fine without ya." :) Cheers! And two horns up for metalheads all around the world!

Woo, its been a while since I played KOTORII. IIRC Carth's not here, so is Mission. I love KOTORII more than KOTOR and yes worth buying. And I actually like the new romance NPC better than Carth. hehe.

KOTOR II, while not all it could have been (I blame lucasarts for that one) is still a great game, and def worth buying.

Kotor II is missing a lot of content which was cut from the game just before release - publisher was pressing to release it sooner. :crying:

There's an ongoing mod project to restore that content: http://www.team-gizka.org/

KotOR II is somewhat better and much worse than KotOR I.

- The game mechanics are better (you get wider range of Force Powers), but the usage is much limited.
ex: By the time you get the Beast Trick ability you would have slaughtered more than half your way across the jungles of Onderon, after which there are not many creatures left in the rest of the game. At least in KotOR I you have plenty of opportunities to use every Force Power. <_<

- The world is larger yet smaller.
ex: There are many more areas in KotOR II, However Paragus, the Harbinger, 3/4 of Telos, Onderon and Korriban become unavailable after one runthrough (2 for Onderon). In KotOR I only the Endar Spire and Taris become unavailable. -_-

- The extra activities are more complex but limiting.
ex: Both swoop racing and Pazaak have been improved. You get more racing options but you only get one race track. You have more Pazaak cards but fewer Pazaak players.
You only get to shoot at interceptors once. (Some may view this as a good thing though B) )

- The characters are more dynamic but flattened.
ex: You have the ability to influence your followers, however as a result their personalities become more two-dimensional or even one-dimensional. In KotOR I all the characters have set but much more three-dimensional personalities (Particularly Carth, Bastila and Mission).

- The plotline is more elaborate but much poorly executed.
ex: The plot of KoTOR I is simple with a plot twist: madman wants to control the university, stalwart group is set out to stop him, one of the them turns out to be you-know-who.
The plot of KoTOR II is more elaborate (albeit unfinished) in that you don't know who the villain is until the end, there are multiple interest groups (villains) etc. However there is much less of a drive to the plotline.
In KotOR I if the group does not stop Malak he will conquer the galaxy and kill/enslave them all; in KotOR II you have nothing.

Don't set your standards too high and you won't be too disappointed. :P
Though some games such as Neverwinter Nights are exceptions to the rule.

My opinion is not humble.

Jk

On topic, there are pros and cons to KotOR 2. I played through it because I'm obsessive when it comes to completing things. I watch sequels and prequels no matter how bad they are supposed to be. If you're the same borrow it instead of buying it.

But then again I seem to be one of the few who didn't like the overall game so whatever.

Thank you all for your thoughts :) Seeing as most seem to agree that the game is worth bying, I'll probably do that. Do you know if a sort of "package deal" is available to buy the 2 games in 1 shot?

I'd personally buy it (if I hadn't when it first came out) as it was said somewhere I cannot exatly remember where or what was said

"it's a great game but it's also a sad game, a wounded game, a game incomplete"

or something like that

but yeah, I cannot argue with the veeeery long post (well, not long, but alot of info in it, Quiet Lurker, you have said lots in a short space, I salute you! ), it's pretty much summed up, but hopefully the restoration project will fix it and give it some much needed loving and tender care

Well, thanks to all your comments, I now bought the game :) I'll let you know if I was right in a few days, but honestly, since I paid 30 $CAN for it, I doubt I'm running a big risk...

As I'm sure everyones already done yes, buy this game...despite the many glitches and problems it has it is so much better than the many crapy games out there with no good storylines...it may take several play throughs but eventually just like everyone here you'll get the meaning of the game. I prefer the 1st over the 2nd but that's just me...and you'll be happy to know that the 3rd installment of the series is on the way, should be out sometime late next year, from a veteran Kotor fan and player 'Anonymous'.
