Is a double-bladed lightsaber subjected to the "dual wielding" penalty, or is it considered a single weapon? If dual wielding, is it considered balanced?

A doublebladed weapon is considered two weapons, and AFAIR is considered balanced.

It's considered as wielding one normal lightsaber and one short lightsaber.

Ah, so does that mean that it's just the off-hand weapon that needs to be balanced not to suffer the biggest penalties, or both hands? And for double-bladed lightsabers, does the damage follows lead hand=lightsaber dam, off-hand=short lightsaber dam?

only the off-hand weapon needs to be balanced.

double-bladed lightsabers do the same damage in each hand, and use 1.5x str bonus in the main hand and 0.5x str bonus in off-hand (as compared with two lightsabers, which do 1.0x str / 0.5x str). so double-bladed will always do more damage (both because of the str bonus, and because of the lesser damage of short lightsabers).

on the other hand, double-blades have 1/2 the critical threat range of dual-wields (20-20/20 instead of 19-20/20). double-blades also have half the number of lightsaber crystals as two weapons, fairly obviously.

Thanks a big lot!!!! Where do you get that kind of game mechanics data? Obviously it's not in the manual... For KotOR II, can the STR bonus to damage be changed for DEX if one gets the lightsaber finesse feat, or is it just the to hit?

www.gamebanshee.com has a very good lightsaber guide, but besides that, some of us own the Player's Handbook ;)

Weapon finesse only changes the To Hit.

IMO, balancing only matters at low levels.

But I DO have the manual... or is it a different document from the player's handbook??? I do use google too... but maybe I'm not that efficient with my search, or anyway... I just tire of looking through endless pages on the bioware or obsidian forums. And I know of gamebanshee :) Good walkthrough and upgrades guide too.

The Player's Handbook is the manual for the Pen&Paper Roleplaying Game that uses the D20 rules KotOR uses. The D20 system is used by Starwars, D&D and a whooooole bunch of other Pen&Paper Games.

Oh, THAT player's handbook... sorry I didn't catch your meaning. I wasn't sure KotOR used 2nd or 3rd edition of the d20 rules??? Some things remind 2E, and some 3E, or maybe I get confused by 3.5E??? Anyway... which set of rules do they use for KotOR? (there are some modifs for KotOR II (i.e. finesse feat and some others), is it the same edition with some "custom" changes?)
