Hi all, this is my first post, so hi everybody.

Now, my question:
I've done an almost Mega-install for the BGT. I have these mods installed on top a full patched installation of both BG1+TotSC and BGII+ToB:

One-Pixel-Productions
BG1NPC
BG2-Tweaks
BG2-Fixpack
BGT
BGTNej2
BGTTweak
BoneHill
BP-BGT-Worldmap
BP 1.77
Improved Celestials
Chloe
DSotSC
Kiara-Zaiya
Nej2v402
Nej2Biffer
Nej2v602
NPCFlirt
NTotSC
Redemption
Sirine's Call
SOS
TDD
TS
UB (BG2)
Underrepresented Items
Improved Horns of Valhala

Well, I was playing and having lots of fun with the improved banter frequency of my NPCs. I loved listening to Jaheira and Khalid, and even to Imoen. But then, somehow during the game, after I dropped Will Scarlet from the party, I stopped hearing Jaheira, Khalid and, now I found, Imoen. I've set all banter options to Always, and I can perfectly hear Branwen and my main charancters (2 of them, because I'm making a solo multi-player game). When I had Minsc, I could hear him speak a lot, but not Jaheira or Khalid. Imoen was not in the party at that time. I could also hear Dynaheir perfectly well. I can see the NPCs are trying to talk as they should, when I select them or put them in the leading position, because I can see the subtitles coming up, but no sound comes. Also, the game does not stutter as if it were looking for a file to play and failing to find it.

I don't remember doing anything strange to the game meanwhile, except perhaps reinstalling BG1NPC to try to get Jaheira's BGII portrait. I skipped all other modules. (I coudln't get her portrait, by the way. Nej2 changed the portraits for Jaheira and Imoen, but for some reason, when I installed BG1NPC only Imoen's portrait was restored).

What do you think is the cause for this missing sound? I'm thinking of reinstalling NPCFlirt and BG1NPC on top of everything now. Should I do it? Would it correct the problem?

Thanks

Alex

Hi,

since the last post, I've had more sounds disappear. Now, not even Imoen or Branwen speak, only my two PCs (multi-player game). I've restarted a single player game and Imoen speaks normally, so I guess there are no damaged files. I am thinking that it could be some problem relating to keeping too many things in memory. I don't know, I have no clue how mods work, or BG's saving game, for that matter.

Occasionally, Jaheira still says a line, always this 'if a tree falls in the forest, I'll kill the bastard what done it'. She doesn't say the others though, even if they still appear in the subtitles. Khalid still says something, but I have verified it only when selling things in Nahskel's store. I haven't heard the others in a long time :-(

I noticed there is a command for the console to play a sound. But where do I find the codes for each sound? If I could do it, I could at least verify that it's not a file problem.

Can anyone help me, please?

Thank you all.

Alex

With that enormous amount of mods, it could be anything, really :(

Try posting your weidu.log and hope someone who experienced the same passes by. It's difficult handling your problem when there's so many things that could be the reason, I'm afraid.

Hi again,
I think I found the cause for the error above. It's not exactly in the installation since I can load past games and they sound nice (it depends on how past game) so I began thinking it had something to do with what I did ingame. So, I began reading the documentation for some mods in detail and in the BG1NPC doc I found this: that the option 'your voice is strange' in an NPC-initiated dialogue is meant to be used when there are problems with the soundset. Now, really, I like to try all options in dialogues, so I had tried those lines for each NPC in the party at different parts in the game. Since at the time I didn't know the specific use intended for that line, I tried them when everything was absolutely alright with the sound. The result seems to be that from then on the sound mostly does not play.

I had to reinstall my game, and today I made a test just after the scene in which Sarevok kills Gorion. I said to Imoen she sounded strange and bang!, when I next tried to select her or put her in the lead, she no longer could speak.

So I guess that's the error. It would be nice to somehow provide an antidote to that line, as I can see it very likely that one will select it by bad luck and then lose a great part of the game. I can't tell you how much I truly love to hear Jaheira saying 'What now! Need your pantaloons pressed?" or Imoen asking for stories in the middle of the combat. The way she speaks it, I find, adds a lot to the music and the excitement of the situation, and playing without those sounds is just not the same thing.

With that number of mods, I'm surprised you were even able to get PID at all.

There have been reports of some trouble between BP and BG1 NPC.

In any case, this issue isn't going to be a quick fix. I'd find the thread here for BG1 NPC and stick a bit on about your problem.

Player-initiated dialogues component in current version doesn't fully work with BGT (it still uses Tutu area and sound resource resrefs). Unless cmorgan has managed to solve all those issues since our last talk, it won't work in next version either. :(

Oh, blast and bother---- this is boneheadedness and modding stupidity on my part.
If you are using a testing version newer than Beta3, PIDs will work beautifully (unless someone else's mod has put an "always true with no conditions" state into play. EXCEPT>>>
Pro5 explained this problem with the voice string-fixer to me early on in the error-checking of the BGT version. You have identified the problem correctly; if you are using the pro5-1 or pro5-2 internal versions, you still also have this problem. The difficulty is that we have not built a version of the string-fixer that works with BGT sound resources, and therefore when we "reset" the strings, we actually map non-existent (or existing but wrong!!!) reference resources.

Until this is fixed up by creating a version which uses BGT resources (I will attempt to do this ASAP) don't use the "<BG1NPC>, your voice sounds strange" response to PID. If I can't get this fixed fast, I will simply remove that option from the BGT side of the distribution.

Thank you all. I'm happy the problem has been correctly identified and I'll simply avoid that line. That's an easy workaround and it works well for me, so don't sweat over it.
