If you are unfamiliar with play by post, it moves more slowly than a gaming session in your dining room.
Unfamiliar with play by post, and with real life sessions as well.
Hence I haven't a clue how to play
There's a column on the Wizards web site that's been talking about how to play for some time now. It's good if you're generating your first character.
http://www.wizards.c...x=dnd/arch/play is the link for the archive.
Once you actually start playing it's easy enough. The DM will describe what's happening and you simply need to post what your character is going to do in response. Once you start playing it's easy enough to pick up, and I'm sure the other players and berelinde as the DM will be happy to help you out. If there's something you want to know ask them, or ask around the forum and someone else will try to help.

Back from the brink.
Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".
These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.
