Just started to paint with my tablet, before I've only used it to enhance photographs and writing.

Anyways, I'm making this picture of my girlfriend, from scratch. At the moment its faceless because I'm saving that part for last, don't ask me why though, focusing on getting the body done at the moment. :)

Here's some pictures of my progress so far.
1;

2; Removed the outline and made some changes to the skin.
projcat2.jpg

3; Added a background and fixed the left ( from viewers perspective ) shoulder to make it look a little more femaleish :)
projcat3.jpg

4; Added some shadows and made the bikini a little more realistic in size.
projcat4.jpg

5; Added some additional shadows, fixed the face form and remade the hair.

Any tips are welcome, I think the face will be the thoughest part to make, so if anyone has any suggestions... :)

Without seeing the source it's kind of difficult to give detailed advice, but at first glance here's a some quick suggestions:
  • Never use pure black, it comes across as a void rather than a dark area. You can use a very dark (such as a dark gray, or dark blue, etc...depending on the mood of the piece) color as a base to build from, but pure black is usually a no-no.
  • I know it's still being worked on, but I'll say it anyway....make sure to use more contrast. It's generally a good idea to block in the darkest areas and lightest areas first so you can judge your contrast better.
  • Is the size you are showing here the size you are working on? If so, I'd work larger so details can be worked on more easily. I think this is the reason the fingers look a little pudgy compared to the rest of the body.
  • Since I'm being extremely picky I'll also mention that her right forearm looks to have the same thickness from the elbow (or where the elbow would be) to the wrist. Again this could be because you're losing detail working so small.
It's a good start, though, and you are working on it correctly by blocking in the form and then slowly building up the details. So keep going so we can ogle at your girlfriend. :whistling:

There is no "source" the body is drawn completely from scratch :) Could get a face picture though.

Sweet, jez; nice to see you here. :D

I think by source, whatbrick meant any pic with your gf, so that we can compare the painting with the real version. Great work so far! (I can`t even draw a straight line, so no criticism from here).

And I believe whatbrick meant a reference picture, meaning the exact photo that drawing was made after to get the lighting, pose, colors and composition right. As there wasn't any, I must say that the anatomy was very well drawn, but I think her neck was a little bit too short, and her head too small in the latest version. I completely second everything what whatbrick said. :)

Anyway, nice to see you posting your art here! I hope this won't be the only one we see from you.

EDIT: And I have to mention. The both of you are very beautiful, and a handsome couple. :)

^^ That's more of what I meant, although...

^^ That would be better to have. Since you have the real deal handy, then getting some good reference shots should be a no-brainer. Heck, what could be a better excuse? "No, honey, I want you to wear the skimpy latex outfit for artistic purposes, I swear!"

Just doing what I can to promote art. Just remember, if the phrase "arch your back just a little more" isn't used, then it isn't the right pose yet. :)
