Introduction

The Rogue Rebalancing mod is a gameplay modification for Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal which strives to bring the Rogues (Bards and Thieves) of BG2 closer to their Pen and Paper AD&D counterparts. The mod is divided into multiple components all of which can be installed separately and are completely independent of each other. In so far, Rogue Rebalancing can restore proper dual-wielding skills to Bards and Thieves, revise the Bard and Thief kits and their respective high level ability tables, restore the proper PnP spell progression table for Bards, add more items useful for Rogues to the game, slightly revise the thievery aspect of the game, enhance the Shadow Thief quests related to Bodhi's tasks in Chapter 2 and introduce a new challenging encounter with a group of Cyric's followers in Chapter 6. In order to experience all of the new content which is introduced by the Rogue Rebalancing mod you must start a new game after installing it. More detailed descriptions of all mod components can be found in the corresponding readme files.

Rogue Rebalancing has been updated to version 4.40. This minor release fixes a bug afflicting the Scribe Scrolls ability and improves compatibility with Refinements. It also bundles and uses ToBEx instead of the previous, stand-alone EXE hack used by Revised Thievery.

Full change-log for 4.40:
  • Fixed a regression that broke Scribe Scrolls.
  • Fixed a few compatibility problems with regards to the description of the Avoid Death HLA if Refinements was also installed.
  • Revised Thievery now uses ToBEx instead of ToB_hacks.
  • Proof-read the mod.
  • Updated the "Upgradeable equipment" component (Cromwell resets ForgeStuff).
  • Updated the thief and bard kit and HLA components to be more compatible with other mods, such as Refinements.
  • Updated Italian and Russian translations.
  • Swashbucklers really do not get Crippling Strike, even if Refinements is installed.
  • Crippling Strike now correctly requires Assassination, even when Refinements is installed.

Rogue Rebalancing has been updated to v4.44 This maintenance release fixes a few leftover issues and makes some minor adjustments to the existing content.

Here's the full list of changes:

  • The Thief version of the Alchemy HLA was erroneously using the description of the Bard version
  • Blades can no longer assign any proficiency points in Two Weapon Fighting Style at the character creation screen since they receive the full bonus automatically upon starting the game
  • The Exploding Trap HLA has been slightly revised. It now deals 15d6 points of fire damage and is no longer subject to magic resistance. However, its secondary effects can now be avoided with a successful save vs. breath
  • The Spike Trap HLA now deals piercing damage. For reference, in the original game the damage dealt by this trap was classified as magical (i.e. akin to the Magic Missile spell) which didn't make much sense for a non-magical ability
  • Made some minor adjustments to the AI of the opponents from the Shadow Thief Improvements and Chosen of Cyric encounter
  • Shadow Thief opponents will now rest when the player rests i.e. if you leave the area, rest up and come back expect your opponents to have done the same
  • The Shadow Thief Improvements component now allows the player to keep the thief stronghold even if he sides with Bodhi. Renal's debt collector, Joster, will not interfere

Rogue Rebalancing has been updated to v4.46. This maintenance release fixes a few leftover issues.
Here's the full list of changes:

  • Fixed an issue which prevented the "Use PnP thievery potions and prevent their effects from stacking" subcomponent of "Revised Thievery" from working properly. Furthermore, this component now takes into account Item Revisions v3
  • If Quest Pack is installed, Aran Linvail will now have the Short Sword of Backstabbing in his inventory in case the party sides against him in Chapter 6. Furthermore, the SsoB will now be moved to Aran Linvail when either the "Shadow Thief Improvements" component or the "Additional Equipment for Thieves and Bards component is installed"
  • Fixed a rare issue where Kerith could occasionally become idle in case his initial spell was disrupted
  • Cromwell can now upgrade the Stonesmasher club to a +3 version if you bring him the Golem Building Book from the Planar Sphere
