Um, I have my doubts about these things, so, to avoid making an error in the dialogues - I ask.

Firstly - what is the currency used most commonly in Athkatla?

(more will probably be added later, as I make progress.. For now... Anyone can remember?^^')
'NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency! Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surpr-... I'll come in again.

NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!... Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms - Oh damn!'

Danters are the gold pieces. The rest I'll have to look up.

Back from the brink.

Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".

These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.

You can download a PDF of Lands of Intrigue for free from the WotC website. It has a bunch of useful info about the region. :new_thumbs:

So when they say a pearl to you my lord. They're basically asking a blessing on you for a platinum piece?

So how many cp in an sp, sp in a gp, and gp in a pp? (Please excuse my ignorance)

Player's Handbook. :new_thumbs:

Standard AD&D 2E rules, they may have changed it in later editions.

Once, using the exchange rates listed above, the current price per ounce of copper, silver, gold, and platinum, and the locally prevalent monthly rental of a 2-bedroom apartment, I calculated the actual size, weight, and purity of gold, silver, and copper pieces.

The mathematical calculations took me hours, but as the DM was currently taking part of the group through a side-adventure, I had the time. Silver pieces are about the size and weight of a quarter, gold pieces, the size and weight of a dime. I no longer remember how big copper or platinum pieces were. The gaming group was underwhelmed with this information.

Tries to imagine handing 15000 dimes to Gaelan.

 Bloody hell.

Not that those fancy USAmerican coins are much more familiar to me than the D&D variety, but I'm impressed.

Look at it from the bright side: he might hurt himself trying to carry it all around. Who says you can't get your money's worth these days?

For added fun, exchange it all for coppers before paying.... (Now that is an evil act worthy of REP loss!)

...otherwise, I like to pretend that most of that wealth concists of gems - it fits the setting, and is nowhere near as hard on the back.

[Jansen-mode]
That reminds me of an old CRPG, wayyy back, where you found a huge pile of treasure after cleaning out the kobolds from a particular cave - but it was all in coppers, and every coin weighed one "unit". An 18/00-STR character could carry something like 3000 units, including equipment... and you took movement penalties if you carried too much. It was one thing to carry around a fortune in platinum and gems (gems and jewelry were worth anything from 10 to nearly 8000 GP, IIRC), but hauling those X thousand copper pieces out with characters reduced from 12 move to 3 (the minimum possible) was such a pain... :D

*weakly*.. I must second that. I doubt I would have a patience to do the calculations, too.

Poor Minsc... Or should I say - poor Minsc's back.
