First, is there a story behind the fact that the ancient 2E sourcebooks are not all available as free downloads?

Second, is there anyone with sourcebooks including Sea of Fallen Stars and Pirates of the Fallen Stars who can clarify some of the rather conflicted information about the state of shipbuilding in Faerun?

"Tyranny is a quiet thing at first, a prim and proper lady pursing her lips and shaking her head disapprovingly, asking, well what were you doing (wearing that dress, walking home at that hour, expressing those inappropriate thoughts) anyway? It's subtle and insidious, disguised as reasonable precautions which become more and more oppressive over time, until our lives are defined by the things we must avoid. She's easy enough to agree with, after all, she's only trying to help -- and yet she's one of the most dangerous influences we face, because if she prevails, it puts the raping, robbing, axe-wielding madmen of the world in complete control. Eventually they'll barely need to wield a thing, all they'll have to do is leer menacingly and we fall all over ourselves trying to placate them." -godlizard

I have a copy of the Pirates of the Fallen Stars. Is there any particular bit you want?

Some of it is to do with the the particular contract negotiated with the authors. In some cases the original writers owned the content and it's not possible to publish them without their consent. It's also true that there's profit to be had here. Many sourcebooks are available for download for a price, and while I don't know the details of the arrangement which makes this possible I expect that some of the money trickles back to the writer/copyright holder. Exact detail is harder to come by, simply because it's commercially sensitive.

And I've got Sea of Fallen Stars, which doesn't have a huge section on ships but does have some information. I suspect 'Pirates...' will be better, but I'll get what information I can out of it.

Back from the brink.

Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".

These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.

Gee, considering I didn't know that there were *Any* out there for DL...

Do you have any links to where I could snag a few?

They say the world is going to Hell.

They are wrong.

The world IS Hell! Always has been, always will be; except perhaps for the five percent or so of the population who can afford differently.

And, if one must reside in Hell, it is far better to do it as a minion of the Devil than as a member of the damned.

I know Wizards of the Coast's site has a few...I don't have the link offhand; I think it's under Downloads under Dungeons and Dragons.

Using Google, I've been able to download every single book available(mind you, even sample chapters posted at the Wizards' site have some good information). The only flaw is that, as soon as I think I don't need it anymore, it comes to my attention that yes, actually, I do - and I have to start the process all over again.

(Trivia: I know of a Russian forum which is pretty cool when it comes to FR-related lore, but the moderator there totally forbids the word "Drizzt" and Drizzt discussion. The users call him "He-who-must-not-be-named", when they must, and even then they risk a ban).

Oh, and here's the link to WoTC downloads: http://www.wizards.c...d/dnd/downloads
