Seeing that the RR mod gives Skalds some considerable bonuses to their bard song, I wanted to try to incorporate a Skald into my party. After playing for a while, I noticed several things:

1. The bard song range seems rather limited compared to vanilla bards - is this intended?
2. When opening the character sheet, the song effects disappear almost immediately on all my party members except the Bard himself - a behaviour I couldn't observe with the vanilla bard. Again - intention?

Apart from those issues: Great work on this mod. I really enjoyed the changes to thief and bard kits up to now. :)

Hmm, which version of the mod are you using? Some past releases had a few issues with bard song stacking but that should have been corrected as of v3.6.

As for the range of the song, I'm not really sure what you mean. Is it less than the visual range of your Skald or...?

The visual range would be about a screen wide? As I said, I noticed this because the vanilla bard's song seems to have a huge range.

Edit by aVENGER - oops, it seems that I've accidentally edited your post instead of quoting it. Sorry!

Slightly less. It's the amount of the fog of war which is revealed by a singe character while standing still (roughly, a 30ft circle).

As I said, I noticed this because the vanilla bard's song seems to have a huge range.

Do you mean the default bard song in the unmodded game or the one which I've modified in Rogue Rebalancing? The unmodded song did have a higher range but it didn't actually do anything, gameplay wise. Anyway, I'll take a look at this once I get back from work. In the meantime, could you post the content of your WeiDU.log? Cheers!

Well, by 'vanilla', I'm refering to the modded version of the no-kit bard. More precisely, I tested this with the NPC Garrick in Tutu. (Dunno if using an NPC vs. creating your own character makes a difference in this context). I could just park him in some corner, and every party member on the map would receive the song, no matter how far they'd stand away. On the other hand, even when they have the bard song icon on their portrait, I cannot see the bonuses to hit and to saving throws on their character sheet, so maybe I'm doing something wrong here? :o

Since I cannot edit my post without being registered, I'll just post my follow-up the the previous message here: Seems like using Garrick as reference wasn't that smart an idea after all; I just created a new bard and used him for testing purposes, now the bonuses appear and the range is much smaller. Well, if the range is supposed to be this small, I guess there's no helping it. The only remaining issue would be the bonuses disappearing when opening the character sheets, but it prolly isn't that much a problem.

Sorry for wasting your time like this.

No, that shouldn't matter unless you've installed Rogue Rebalancing in the middle of a playthrough in which you've already encountered the NPC in question (i.e Garrick in this case) and saved your game.

I could just park him in some corner, and every party member on the map would receive the song, no matter how far they'd stand away. On the other hand, even when they have the bard song icon on their portrait, I cannot see the bonuses to hit and to saving throws on their character sheet, so maybe I'm doing something wrong here?

Hmm, sounds like the unmodded song to me. Again, this might happen if Rogue Rebalancing was installed while you were in the middle of a playthrough, but I'll take a look at that too just in case.

Ok, I've just started a new game with a freshly rolled Skald and I was unable to reproduce the icon/character sheet bug. However, one thing that might cause such behavior would be an AI script which is running on your bard. Try turning off the party AI and see if it happens again.

Well, I tried disabling the party AI as you suggested, but the problem still persists. Funnily enough, the bard song only fades from the party members when I look at the character records - map, inventory, spellbook etc. all work flawlessly. From what I can see, the song fades as soon as a new round starts - ie. about 6 seconds into opening the records. If the game is paused during this time, the song will not fade away. The logic behind this is well beyond me, but then again I'm not exactly an expert on the Infinity engine. :)

Hmm, that's really strange. Since I can't reproduce the bug on my local copy I can only assume that it's caused by a mod or a rogue AI script running in the background.

This is just a guess, but try to uninstall the Avatar Morphing Script and see if it happens again. I've heard that it can occasionally cause lag and certain issues similar to this one.

Tried uninstalling all the mods, but didn't seem to have any effect. Also tried creating a new bard with my BG2 installation, same there. Strange indeed. Anyway, it's not all that problematic, and if you cannot reproduce it it fixing it might be a bit difficult afterall.

Well, I've tried to reproduce the bug on three separate installs (BG2, BGTuTu and BGT) and was unable to do so in either case. Could you uninstall Rogue Rebalancing as well and see if it happens again in an unmodded game?

BTW, what are your computer specs and do you per chance have a wireless keyboard or a wireless mouse?

The unmodded Skald song doesn't fade, no. Something I just found along the way: When opening the character records straight out, the modded song will not disappear - only opening the inventory screen and then going to the character record (I believe the game pauses while in the inventory screen and unpauses again when leaving it, if this has any relevance) will make the song fade. I never noticed because I usually open the character record by right-clicking the portrait, then clicking the record icon.

Specs are:
AMD Athlon 2700+
ATI Radeon 2600
Windows XP SP2
Game version: BG1 + EasyTutu + BG2 - ToB (26498). And no, I do not have any wireless hardware. ;)

Ok, by going to the inventory screen and than to the character screen I was finally able to reproduce the bug. :) This appears to be a hardcoded issue with the Infinity Engine itself as it happens even if Rogue Rebalancing is not installed, though only with the Skald song. For some strange reason, the default Bard and the Blade song (unmodded) seem to be exempt from this bug.

Could you confirm that this happens to Skalds in your game without Rogue Rebalancing installed?

Indeed, it does behave similarly even without the mod installed. Strange that this would only happen to the Skald song. Oh well, solved one more mystery. Thanks for your effort. :)

No problem, I'm glad we managed to get to the bottom of this. :) Anyhow, it seems that the solution is to simply pause the game before entering the inventory screen. The bug apparently can't happen while the game remains paused.

BTW, I noticed that you haven't installed the "Additional Equipment for Thieves and Bards" component of Rogue Rebalancing. I forgot to mention it before, but that component is also fully compatible with (Easy)TuTu as of RR v3.7.

I'm having a weird problem. My bard's song is only affecting the bard itself in BG2 even though the same script worked well in BGTuTu.

I tested the skald's song, and it seems t0 be working correctly - but then I saw that the leveling table for skalds doesn't give them the rr-prefixed skald song but the default one.

What gives? Is there a way to fix this with DLTCP? Currently too tired to go through the spells and try and spot the difference...

Did you import your protagonist from Tutu by chance? Unless you installed your mods in the same order it's likely that something got messed up in the process.

Sorry. Pressed enter accidentally.

Anyway, yeah, naturally I imported from TuTu, but it's actually Imoen who's the bard via SK. She was the same in Tutu, though, which makes me wonder.
