Best mods? For what? Ok, as there are as many answers as there are players, let's add to the chaos.

I love Classic Adventure, as it adds a complete new start for the player... and many, so many other things.

I love BGT, a mod that BG would be totally not worth a playthrough for the second digit number of times, sadly.
I love the challenges SCS I and II give, as I play BGT.
And of course there is the mods that add to BGT, so I have to say that I love them too.

Next, as I haven't played too many NPC mods a lot, I can't give any unbiased opinion about them.

Then there is the rule changing, tweak and technical mods that all deserve a high praise, as long as they work, preferably together.

Let's see... for my own listing

- G3 Tweaks and Weimer's Ease of Use are MUST HAVEs
- Dungeon Be Gone is very important as well
- Item Upgrades are fun to an extent
- Keto and Tashia
- Zyraen's Miscellany - I know it sounds weird, but I sometimes wonder how I could have ever played without some of these.
- Beyond the Law - of course :) with prejudice

All time favourite non tweak NPC by others - Keto! :)

Love between a Law Enforcer and a Fugitive - can such a thing even happen?
SoA Release - Overview / Download Links

Zyraen's Miscellaneous Mods - Ust Natha Accelerator, item tweaks, XP caps, The Ub3r Reaver Kit, and much more...
Spellhold Gauntlet - more than just a Spellhold-Be-Gone
Hidden Kits - hidden dual-classed kits with a twist for progression

Let's see. I like my games very heavily modded, but my favourites include..

BG1 NPC Project, of course - it gives such a new dimension to the game. Especially the Xan romance and the banters.

Let's see. Xan for BG2, Kivan for BG2, Nathaniel, Luxley Family, Ashes of Embers (couldn't live without it), Ascension, Dungeon Crawl, Unfinished Business (for both BG1 and BG2), Iylos, NPC IEP (what's been released so far), and a big bunch of others. Yay for mods!

EDIT: Wow, hey, it's my 1000th post! *does a little dance*

Really too many Mods are just excellent.

I won't ever play Baldur's Gate again without Baldur's Gate Trilogy.

I won't ever play BGT without the BG2 Fixpack.

I won't ever miss installing SCS I and II.

BG1 NPC Project is also a must have, in my opinion. And so are BG1 and BG2 Unfinished Business.

BGT Tweaks and BG2 Tweaks offer a formidable cusomtization level to the game so they are never out from my mod list.

Another great mod is Ding0's Quest Pack (I also love Ding0's Tweak Pack's component: NPC/Summons set off traps) which is a quality mod (Simding0 is working on a much needed new release in these days).

Conceptually I'd also include Virtue (another mod by Simding0) but it's not compatible with BGT.

There are many other very good mods out there that are somehow incompatible with my personal view of the game (I don't play NPC Mods, for instance nor big mods).

Cheers!

Best mods? Quest/encounters: TDD and Tactics
TDD - i know its buggy, not coherent but still I can't imagine playing without it anymore
Tactics - first mod for bg2 I ever installed.

NPC: Yasraena , Tsujatha and all that bring back npc's from bg1(eg. Kivan,Xan).

Quest mods are fun...

NPCs...I like dimensional NPCs, one of the reasons that Kulyok's Xan is so fun to play with, with or without the romance aspect(s). So much dialogue, if you just want someone you can interact with. (And Xan has a sense of humor. "Revenge is a dish best served with a very large weapon.") Nathaniel is also fun. And any other NPC you can just TALK to, 'cause that makes the game seem more real. Blanking out on names, however. Y'all know which characters I'm talking about, right?

The Flirtpacks are great for adding depth to the canon romances. And Romantic Encounters is just...*faint*

*Revive*
The Dungeon Crawl Inc. mod was hilarious, too. Is still hilarious, even after several run-throughs.

These are my favorites. There are more out there, I know it, and I will find them!
Complex is the art of Technical Wild Magery, as you have to be able to do exactly what someone else does, and come up with WILDLY different results. For example, a Technical Mage can download the program to run a .rar file and have it work fine, whereas a Technical Wild Mage can download the same program and have their computer blow up. If ever you require tutoring in the art of Technical Wild Magery, I am available at virtually all hours.

Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surpr-... I'll come in again.

NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!... Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms - Oh damn!'

BGT & Tutu

Secret of Bone Hill, Shadows over Soubar (yes, Shadows over Soubar even with the load of bugs it carries), BG1 NPC Project, Spellpack (from Galactycon), Rogue Rebalancing Pack, SCS I, SCS II, Tactics, Improved Battles, BP, Xan, a lot of the tweaks mods, and much, much more.

You have a new universe to explore, Red knight.

PS: It would nice if people would be so kind to point at the mods they have actually played. :P I will.

For NPC Mods I'd say the top four are

1. de'Arnise Romance
2. Kelsey
3. Keto
4. Valen

I've reviewed some of the other ones but none are quite as good as those: http://forums.pocket...ic,21450.0.html

I've only played a couple of the NPC mods and so far I kinda like the Amber NPC, (corse I were a big fan of Planescape Torment so.....) but I've heard it said the Amber NPC is kinda quirky and it is but all in all I like it.

As for the others: hmm lets see I couldn't live without BG2Tweaks, Ease of use was great till it was superceeded. I always include BG2tweeks, BGTtweaks, SCS, BG1npc, UB1 & 2, NPCFlirt, Banterpack, SOS, CTB, FRROV, Bonehill, DSoTSC & NToTSC, DOQuest pack and tweeks, Tactics, SirensCall, RE, Planarsphere mod and without fail 1pp and last but not least that fantastic worldmap!

LOL and I suppose it's a foregone conclusion that I always use BGT :) so used to using it I forgot to put it in the list :)

My favourite mod for BG1 is BG1NPC (I couldn't live without EasyTuTu either, but i prefer BG1NPC) - I love the way even NPCs originally intended as one joke comic reliefs were fleshed out and made into real people you came to care for. As well as 25 excellently developed characters, the mod comes with so many other bells and whistles that it transforms the BG1 experience. That, and the Xan and Dynaheir romances remain the best I've seen in any Rpg.

For BG2? Hmmmm....I love Nathaniel (although as he's the only option for my large number of gay male PCs, my view may be coloured :) (, excellently written romance and very well developed character that fits into the game without overshadowing the PC. I also love Auren Aseph, Romantic Encounters, Quest, Banter and Flirt packs, Ashes of Embers, Xan, Kivan, Sword Coast Stratagems and Sarah.

My current favourite, and likely to remain favourite mod is the TC Classic Adventures, which, while not complete, contains many complex NPCs and plotlines, lots of choice in the PCs options and a genuine feel of classic D&D adventures with a believable, well-written and personally involving storyline (OK, I'm bias as I'm writing a romance for it. :D )

The IWD NPC mod and IWD2NPC are also several kinds of wonderful with added sparkles, marred only by the fact that they involve the IWD games (which are really tedious hack and slash fests with sadly unrealised plot potential and amazing soundtracks)
