I've just installed vanilla Oblivion GOTY (including the Nine/Shivering Isles) and applied the Shivering Isles patch before starting and I find that when I go to save a game, I click on New Save and it immediately says 'Save Successful' and gives me the main menu again - no savegame. I can save over an old game - I copied a quicksave and renamed it and it showed up in the menu okay - but it seems I can't create new savegames. Anyone know what gives?

Never mind - I'm using the console. It's actually quicker anyway.

Sorry, man - I am watching you for the answers, as that is not coming to my hard drive until this coming fall.

Okay - be very careful when naming your character. DO NOT use the tab key to access the name field as it is the tab that screws things up. Bethesda do provide a workround but don't guarantee that it will work (it's in the readme) - it didn't for me and I was too far into the training dungeon to want to start again. Their last suggestion is to use the console for save games; ironically, it is a LOT faster than using the gui!!!

Oh yes - Oblivion is definately a serious crasher. I usually play with one finger not far from F5 (quicksave) and once it's blackscreened my PC, I reboot and give up for the day. It's damned annoying because I built this PC just to push Oblivion and NWN2 around properly.
