I was just looking at the Smbul's stats in the FR Campaign setting (3.0) and under feats it has Twin Spell listed but she does not have a single other metasmagic feat, which is the prerequisite for Twin Spell.

I was just wondering if this was a screw up on the designers part or if there is some other way in which she gained this feat? Has no real important as her stats are pretty screwed up anyways, I'm just curious is all.

It's a screw up

I think part of the problem is that when the FRCS was written the rules for epic level characters were still being written, so she's short four feats from what she should have. The version in the Epic Level Handbook does have the right number, meets all the requirements for them, and I can even work out a possible progression for how she took them. I'd suggest Maximise Spell, since that's one of the four extra ones she has, to replace Twin Spell; then her two bonus feats from wizard levels can be Twin Spell and Delay Spell.

I did think about a 3.5 version, with the prestige class from Complete Mage that advances two arcane classes. I think I worked out a way for a 25th level character to have 20th level Sorcerer (caster level 25) and 17th level Wizard (caster level 18).

Back from the brink.

Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".

These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.

Thanks for the info.

haha, I was thinking of doing the exact same thing. The Ultimate Magi class does seem to fit her personality and desired stats etc. Either that or just making her lvl 30 (or whatever) sorcerer.

You sure about that? Although my knowledge is limited to the Neverwinter 2 game :whistling: , the spell caster prestige classes could only chose one caster proficiency class to extend as, so you'll become either capable of casting 9th spell level sorcerer and 3 spell level wizards or 4th spell level sorcerer spells and one 9 spell level wizards spell(+ the all under that), and the caster levels just effect the damage range, etc. for the rare damage spells, etc. you can cast. So basically the chart is still a normal 20th level sorcerer with a few additional low level spells and the higher spell casting levels. Opposed to a 5th level fighter that can cast at the same level with a few lesser low level spells, if the extra spells are counted.

This prestiage class, which wasn't in Neverwinter Nights 2 :P, deals with duel-caster progression. Its basically the arcane/arcane version of the Mystic Theugre (which was arcane/divine)

Every level you gain an increase to both a spontaneous arcae caster level and a preperation arcane caster level, effecting spells known and spells you can cast per day (but gaining no other benefits). The exceptions are 1st, 4th and 7th level which only increase the caster level of the class which is currently the lowest level.

The "screw up" of the Simbul initially having Twin Spell with no other metamagic feats to meet the prerequisite has little to do with her statistics, but with the changes made to the archmage prestige class itself before the FRCS was published.

The original version of the prestige class was much more similar to the Hierophant PrC in its requirements--specifically that the only Feat required was "any metamagic feat" (i.e. no skill focus or spell focus necessary)

At some point prior to publishing they decided that the PrC was too powerful, and changed the requirements, including adding Skill Focus (Spellcraft) and Spell Focus (any two schools) to the prerequisites. Because of this ALL of the NPCs who had been written up with this class had to have their selection of feats revised to match those requirements.

If you want evidence of this see the early sneak peek version of Alustriel, and compare it with her entry in the FRCS
(http://www.wizards.c...nd/ex/20010117c)

or just read the commentary on the original Archmage PrC posted by Sean K Reynolds on his website
(http://www.seankreyn...alarchmage.html)

In the case of the Simbul, her other metamagic feats were clearly swapped out so she could still be an archmage, but they kept Twin Spell since it made the most sense for her character/tactics. Unfortunately they simply forgot that she could not meet the prerequisites with her other metamagic feats having been swapped out.
