And now for something nobody could possibly expect

Posted Image

It's... late... so anything I type now is unlikely to make sense. Sadly, this includes the documentation supplied with this.

Sorry if the screenshots aren't good, but I took them before I patched the items... so I just had one test file to play with.

Includes:

· Colourable Quarterstaff animations
· Matching paperdoll images
· A quick fix for the BG II items so they'll actually make use of it! (if you don't install this, anything staffy will look positively greyyyy :P )
· I also fixed the buckler item files
· ... etc
· oh, and Documentation a.k.a. read-me

*gasp* it is a WeiDU installer :shifty:

Are the default quarterstaves all brown?

No, but they have only one colour you can set (i.e. the entire length of the staff) which is really sad if you look at the elaborate designs on the inventory icons.

The silver/gold/silver colouring of the +1 staff, for instance, could never be replicated in-game. Now you can.

Ah, so is that what you've done? Matched the in-game and inventory designs?

In a way, yes.

The original files (both on the paperdoll and the actual animation) used one colour for all of the staff. You could change that colour for your item, but if you wanted a staff that actually had different colours on different parts, you were out of luck. The +1 staff could either be gold or silver on the paperdoll and avatar, but never both.

This is exactly what this changes: It gives you the ability to colour individual parts of the staff, exactly like you would colour the blade and hilt of a sword differently.

Sorry if I sound a bit stupid, Erephine, but are you saying that this mod doesn't actually change any of the staff colours? I don't understand your use of the word 'ability'. What will happen if I install the mod?

Bah, never mind. I'm wasting too much of your time as it is.

You can change the staffs (some)colors by changing the characters colors in the inventory screen, as you can see from the screen shot. Now the basic staffs use your two(major and minor) clothing colors for different staffs parts and different colors(asigned to wood/metal) depending on how magical it is for the others(two parts) and they can be changed for example with Shadowkeeper or Rupert the Dye Merchant mod.

You're not wasting time.

It does change the staff colours if you install the patch component (it's called item patches for BG II, or something like that). I said ability, because you wouldn't have been able to change the colours individually in the first place without this mod.

If you install the mod you'll get four components:

1) Install core files
This changes the corresponding images and animations in your game to allow different colours.

2) Install item patches BG II
This actually sets up your item files with the new colours. If you install 1) but not 2) most of them will look grey, because the original items obviously don't set the extra colours.

3) Install mod item patches
Same as 2), except for a few non-canon items that I had in my override.

4) Fix buckler items
This is entirely unrelated to the quarterstaves, but I still included it. :P It's useful if you use the ported buckler animations and don't want bucklers to show up as small shields.

Nice, but not as cool as shields.
Erephine, please do something with medium shields :)
