Welcome to the Spellhold Studies Dungeons and Dragons/Forgotten Realms quiz. Questions will cover a range of subjects with a different general theme for each quiz. As the quiz continues, questions will get harder :devil:

Quiz rules:

1. Once you've posted, what you've posted is final. Edited entries won't be counted. If you really, really, really have to have something that must be edited (not for content - you don't get to change your mind when you're wrong) contact me, Bluenose, by PM and I will do it.

2. This isn't the thread for discussing answers. If people really want one, a "Comments on the Quiz" thread would be possible.

3. The gnome-sage's decision is final.

4. held in reserve for other rules.

And now, on with the show.

Back from the brink.

Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".

These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.

(Third time posting as I tend to click renew before I am done... :wacko: :angry: )

1. Abeir-Toril

2. Fearūn

3.
Kara-Tur;
The Japanese/Asian part of Toril. Located to the east of Fearūn.
@ Scipio - Shuo Lung is the largest empire here but not a continent
@ All - actually this is not a continent as it is connected to Fearūn by the Horde Lands. However, cannon calls it a different continent. Detailed in Unapproachable East, even if parts of the Unapproachable east still ly on the maps of Fearūn and are part of this part of the super continent
Zakhara;
South/East of Faerūn, mystical arabia full of pirates, demon sorcerers and genies. Detailed in the Al-Qadim setting.
@ All - actually this is not a continent as it is connected to Fearūn but seperated World Pillar Mountains.. However, cannon calls it a different continent. Thus we have three 'continents' (Fearūn, Zakhara, and Kara-Tur) on one major continent, as supposed to Greyhawk where there is one super continent and you only know the east part known as The Flaeness.
Maztica;
A "new world/Inca/Golden cities" setting on a continent far to the west and across the ocean of Faerūn (*cough* Europe - America rip *cough*). Houses Chacs (jaguar spirits), Dog people, telephatic ghostwise halflings and other very unique stuff.
Osse;
Former Unknown land - Mystical Australia inspired continent
Anchorome;
Former Unknown land - Lies north of Maztica. Flled with the insectoids the Kreen (City of Gold module) (unofficial map, pieced together by info in novels)
Katashaka;
Former Unknown land - Lies south of Maztica
Myrmydune;
Former Unknown land - Some however claim this part of Maztica, some say it is seperate, thus added to be sure to note I know this. Lies west of Maztica

** Extra answers **

Also Culth, as Scipio said rings a bell as to be South of Fearūn, but again I wonder if that isn't a land in Zakhara... However, for the love of my life... google doesn't help me spark a memory. I can only find one vague reference... and a search on the WoTC forum ends up empty...

The Lost Lands (includes a sunken continent):
? mythical Shangri-La
? the Seven Cities of Cibola
? The sunken lands (among others Lemuria and Lyonesse)
? Subterrean lair of Judaculla in Underdark
? More, many more stuff :P

Question 2 - Geography of Faerun.

What are the names of the rivers that run through/by:

Baldur's Gate

Athkatla

Neverwinter

Icewind Dale

Answers to previous question coming later.

Much later, as it turns out.

Toril or Abeir-Toril are the names used for the world.

Faerun is the continent.

The best attested continents of Abeir-Toril, apart from Faerun, are:

Kara-Tur, east of Faerun, with a heavy East-Asian feel to the setting.

Zakhara is south of Faerun, and has been described as mythical Arabia for D&D.

Maztica is the continent west of Faerun, with parallels to the civilisations of central America such as the Aztecs, Maya, and others. It may be the name of the southern region of the continent, but can also be used to refer to the whole.

Less well known is Katashaka, a continent which has been described as a fantasy Africa. It lies south of Maztica.

Osse exists, though there's very little information about it. It seems to have things in common with Australia/Polynesia

Anchorome is another possible continent. It may be the name of the continent Maztica is part of, or a different one. Myrmydune is another possible name for the same continent or a region of that continent.

The river in Neverwinter is the Blood River, IIRC. And the one in IWD is the Shaengarne.

What are the names of the rivers that run through/by...

*Erk* I didn't know anyone had even named the rivers.

With or without Google, WikiP and other online sources I can already see that it's going to be MUCH easier to index the correct answers than to find them! But you've already increased my knowledge greatly, Bluenose, just by getting me to look at maps of Toril.

A picture round. On the world map, match the numbers to the name of the ocean or sea from this list:

Celestial Sea
Eastern Ocean
Eastern Sea
Great Ice Sea
Great Sea
Sagara Sea
Sea of Fallen Stars
Sea of Swords
Shining Sea :whistling:
Southern Ocean
Trackless Sea
Western Ocean
Yellow Sea

Edit: it helps if I actually attach the map, I think. :doh:

From yesterday, the rivers are:

Baldur's Gate - the Chionthar

Athkatla - the Alandor

Neverwinter - the Neverwinter River

Icewind Dale - The Shaengarne

Now, a list of some FR countries and their capital cities. Match them up. For a bonus point, which ones are named after people?

Countries:
Amn
Cormyr
Dambrath
Impiltur
Mulhorand
Thay

Capitals:
Athkatla
Cathyr
Eltabbar
Lyrabar
Skuld
Suzail

And the map I should have posted last round, with the answers marked:

I am happily sitting on the sidelines and watching the brainboxes pull out the answers while I record them.

I am going to give this thread a punt in the Rec Room by mentioning it in the obverse of this quiz -- what do the people on Toril know about Earth? I hope you folks won't mind, but this super Bluenose thread sometimes goes invisible on the Forums home page, and I suspect there are potentially interested members who haven't looked at it yet.

I can simply quote the Imp ;). As for the bonus points I will try, but I may fail... hope that doesn't give me minus points. Oh well, if it does it isn't a disaster.

Amn - Athkatla (shame on those who don't know this :P)
Cormyr - Suzail
Dambrath - Cathyr
Impiltur - Lyrabar
Mulhorand - Skuld
Thay - Eltabbar

bonus stuff:

Cormyr - I believe this has to do with the line of kings
Eltabbar - I believe the founder (or once great leader or some such) or Red wizards

Edited on request. Naughty typos. Gotta smack them all.
