Wrong time for banter

I had just cleared the Nashkel Mines and was heading to Beregost to take care of Tranzig. Out of the blue, Minsc and Imoen start bantering about how glad they are that Imoen had been rescued from Spellhold and how Minsc was going to buttkick Irenicus and Bodhi. Now how did that get into BG1?

It is from, they don't wish to make their mod work with BGT. I did not have Minsc in my party and did not see any SoA only banters in BG1 my last play though of BGT. Just play on everything should be ok.

There are several that could go wrong here, if BanterPack is installed before BG2 content.

The quickest fix for this:
Extract BanterPack to the desktop, and look inside the file structures.

To each of the scripts in banterpack\scripts\ add the line

GlobalGT("endofbg1","GLOBAL",1)

in the top of each block, so that it reads something like

what about the npc flirt pack, npc iep banters and crossmod banters? does the same thing need to be done with those mods as well? why don't they just make it bgt-compatible?

I've offered to make Banter Packs BGT compatible, but jcompton didn't seem interested.

IEP Banters is most definitely BGT compatible, and Crossmod only changes mod NPCs for BGII. So both will work fine, without any changes to BG1. :)

Yep - grab the code from IEP banters, and modify those files, and you are good to go. Use a text editor like Aptana IDE, ConTEXT, Crimson Editor, Notepad ++, even Notepad - just not MSWord.

What means "didn't seem interested"?
That he makes it BGT compatible or have you ask him, that we can do that for him?

I like your idea with "IEP Extended Banters" and the combination with "Banter Packs". That's why I asked. For BGT it would be very nice if we can use both mods together. "Banter Pack" is really a good one, too. If JCompton have not the time for that, than we should ask him for permission. Better is, that we make the changes for him and he can release it as a new version on pocket plane.

They are uninterested in having Banter Packs made compatible/changed to work with BGT. I offered them the code (that other good modders developed like cmorgan) they could add to Banter Packs to make sure none of their banters happened in BG1 and they were uninterested.

The more I hear about PPG mods, the sadder I get. The times where PPG were at the top of the list of high quality mods is definitely over. Either they are outdated (overwriting instead of patching), or bugs don't get fixed for years, suggestions are not taken on, compatibility with BGT is not supported even the code got provided.

Sorry for the spam post, but it makes me really sad.

BGT causing problems with otherwise good mods is not our problem, fault, or responsibility. And no, I am not interested in approving any splinter versions.

Other problems are lamentable, but it seems that I'm fresh out of virgins to sacrifice to entice the gods to send me a half-dozen youthful, energetic, eager modders to replace the decrepit old men such as myself. Until then, we must muddle through as best we can.

Ah, well. Respectfully, the position here seems to be one that ignores the benefits of better player convenience, mod compatibility, and player satisfaction for said mod, preferring maintenance of mod functionality. IMHO, I don't believe that the position is valid, since adding such script lines will do nothing that will compromise the 'goodness' of said mod in any way. Plus, the effort required from the mod maintainer is minimal, limited to recompilation and redistribution. But well, players will have to deal with installing banter pack after the transition, investing the time to fix the errors themselves, or not use the mod at all at this time.

I wonder why nobody has yet noticed that updating banter pack the proposed way will render it useless for all users who do not install BGT?

(My opinion on BGT, its lack of continuity, and the additional workload it introduces for modders you know).

Kulyok, that's not actually correct. Please check out IEP Banters' coding--it will work for both those using BGT and those who do not use BGT.

As K'aeloree said, you can use different talk codes for BG2:SoA or for BG2:ToB, or for BGT, and the updated file size isn't going to be in the 10Mb's, so it's quite fine to have a different dialog files for the different installs.
