[Archmage Silver]

Welcome to Archmage Silver's Portrait Alterations - the thread where I post my more-or-less successful portrait edits. All portraits can now be found in the first post (this one), and they now have titles for reference purposes.

Wow!!! I really like what you did!! The alternates are, in my opinion, a lot better than the originals!
The drow has black, skin, the sun elf doesn't have that silly greenish complexion, you got rid of those silly casting hands in the first portrait... You've always improved the original, in my opinion, and you can be certain you'll have an extra download of BG & IWD portraits on your site!

While I still think the Sun Elf's complexion was greenish because the *light* in the area is greenish (hence the greenish reflection on the hair, too. I'm pretty sure she doesn't have green hair. Also note the green tinged walls and highlights on the clothes.), the alternative is still nice. Though I was rather fond of the original yellowish eyes.


Overall, very nice! I would love to see more.

I have mixed feelings about the alteration of someone else's art, but I am definitely opposed to that lens flare. It made me laugh, and I don't think that was the intention.

Some of the older portraits were partially done in ArcSoft PhotoStudio 2000, but nowadays I do all my work in PhotoShop.

If you had been around longer than you obviously have, you'd know that portrait editing has been a standard game since the beginning of the BG series. Not once have I heard or received any complaints from BioWare or the original artists - and BioWare most certainly is aware of this happening.

Also, are you aware of the fact that art is always something that never needs or strives to gain 100% approval rate?

I converted some game art (from .MOS to .BMP) from various IE games a while ago, and found a moment of inspiration... for a dwarf. Once again, the new portrait is on the right.

Something new this time. I've been meaning to use the original portrait for an edit for a long time now, so I figured I'd get it done.
