I've glanced at a few things that say there's a romance in this game.
Is there one for just males, just females, or anybody?

One for each gender, although neither of them are "romances" by BGII standard. They're still better than NWN2, though.

Technically, there's one romance for a male character and two for a female character, although the second female one doesn't often come up.
Back from the brink.
Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".

With a male PC you can have a romance with Bastila.
With a female PC you can have a romance with Carth and/or Juhani.
You don't have to have them with you, as you can get most of the talks on your ship. Talk to your companions every time you level up, and there'll often be something new for them to say. Though that isn't true with all of them.

There's also mods that let you romance Bastila as a female character and Juhani as a male character.

It might be worth it to mention that the romances are different when you play Light or Darksided
