I installed CA 0.46 on linux (Ubuntu 8.4), using weidu linux tools (release 2.07). But the game, although it let me create a caracter, crash to desktop as soon as it begins to load first area.

According to FAQs :

Q. The first area crashes after I build a new character.
A. Did you install the very last section of the mod? This puts each of the graphic areas into the game. If TC0009.TIS is not in the Override folder, you didn't install it.

Indeed, I don't have any TC0009.TIS into my override. Even if my weidu log shows a correct installation:

// Log of Currently Installed WeiDU Mods
// The top of the file is the 'oldest' mod
// ~TP2_File~ #language_number #component_number // [Subcomponent Name -> ] Component Name [ : Version]
~SETUP-CLASSICS046.TP2~ #0 #0 // The Classic Adventures TC mod, version 0.46
~SETUP-CLASSICS046.TP2~ #0 #1 // Infinite Weapon, Potion and Ring/Amulet Stacking
~SETUP-CLASSICS046.TP2~ #0 #2 // Shut Up "You Must Gather Your Party Before Venturing Forth"
~SETUP-CLASSICS046.TP2~ #0 #3 // Wear Magical Armor AND Magic Rings (etc.)
~SETUP-CLASSICS046.TP2~ #0 #4 // Allow Multi-Player Created NPCs to "Wait Here" When Kicked Out
~SETUP-CLASSICS046.TP2~ #0 #5 // Turn Off The Hideous Cloak-of-Mirroring and Spell-Trap Animation
~SETUP-CLASSICS046.TP2~ #0 #6 // Install 1PP's Flaming Sword animations pack
~SETUP-CLASSICS046.TP2~ #0 #7 // Install 1PP's Ion Stone animations pack
~SETUP-CA046A.TP2~ #0 #0 // The Classic Adventures TC mod, patch version 0.46a

Does it mean there is a .bat file launched after the weidu tp2 file? It would mean I cannot install the game on linux...

Yes, areas have to be installed using a bat file (or you could try to convert it to a linux script). The area maps are compressed to TIZ and after Weidu installs the main files, the batch file uncompresses each TIZ to a TIS. Once that is complete, Weidu is used to biff everything to your data folder. You should only have about 4 files left in your override folder when finished.

Look in the Classics046\BIN folder for a CA_INSTALL.BAT. That is what would need to be changed to a linux script.

Tired of Bhaal? Try some classics mods instead:

Thanks Billybob. It is what I was suspecting; since I don't know enough about linux scripts, I'm going to install it on WinXP, and then copy it to linux :)

I'm actually writing a kind of tutorial to make a clean install on a common Linux system, since I managed to solve some of the problems I had. I have to test the game, but the install works fine, except for some biffing at the end, which is strange, because when I installer NEJ + TS, I had no problem with the biffing, and the game played perfectly. I use Ubuntu 8.041 but it may work on others regular distributions like Debian, Mandriva, Fedora, Suse, etc.

I just have to test some things and to make it clear though complete.

EDIT : I spoke too fast ! I have the same problem. I suppose that trying to make the decompressor an executable windows file will solve the problem since stuff like oggdec.exe from other mods works fine.

OK, I managed to install the area files this way : I unpacked Weidu-Linux on my game folder, especially the tisunpack file. There were a few errors during installation but the game was are, as were all areas.

I hope some other person will try this way to confirm if this works on other computers ! I guess my tutorial is on the good way ! ^_^

All you need to do is run tisunpack on all the .tiz files, and move them to the override folder.
