This board needs a little more film-talk. :whistling:

So, my very favorites:

Wojciech Has
Terry Gilliam
Jan Svankmajer
F.W. Murnau
Hayao Miyazaki (I'm usually not a fan of Anime, but this man surely deserves a nod)
Guillermo Del Toro
Michel Gondry (in his own weird way)

Anyone else?

Oh, and whoever mentions Peter Jackson gets shot on parole.

I'm sure many of you've seen this already, but here's a fine short by Salvador Dalí and Walt Disney for you guys:

Fine then, I won't even open my mouth! :D
I will say that I heartily agree regarding Terry Gilliam and Hayao Miyazaki. Not really familiar with most of the others, and not a huge fan of Guillermo Del Toro, though.

Oh, and whoever mentions Peter Jackson gets shot on parole.

I can provide some bullets if needed.

EDIT I should learn to read the full title of a thread in the near future.

Del Toro all the way. Heard he's directing The Hobbit. YAY.

Pan's Labyrinth is quite possibly one of the most beautiful films ever made.

Chris Columbus because:
1. The Harry Potter movies were such fun.
2. The Harry Potter movies are among the few fantasy films I have ever seen because most fantasy movies are such drivel that I don't bother to watch them after the first ten minutes.
3. The Harry Potter movies were much better than the LotR trilogy, which could have been edited down to a total of three hours, maybe. I nearly fell asleep during the first one.

Greatest Fantasy Film Directors?

Well, without a doubt there is one special one I have in mind, and that is Uwe Boll.
This is cause he must be the greatest screw up of them all.

Guillermo del Toro, Pan's Labyrinth is simply breathtaking.
Tim Burton, the master of "sad and wonderful". :crying:
Hayao Miyazaki, everything I've seen by him has been amazing.
Terry Gilliam, Brazil is really something else.
Marc Caro & Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children are both surreal and haunting and I love them both.
And last but not least: Ang Lee, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is one of my favourite films ever and wuxia is IMO like a close cousin to fantasy genre.
Ihmeellinen meri

Kummalliset kalat liukuvat syvyydessä,
tuntemattomat kukat loistavat rannalla;
olen nähnyt punaista ja keltaista ja kaikki toiset värit -
mutta ihana meri on vaarallista nähdä,
se herättää tulevien seikkailujen janon:
mitä on tapahtunut sadussa, on tapahtuva minullekin.

Hayao Miyazaki, even though I'm not a huge fan of most anime his work really draws me in.

Guillermo del Toro, I'm really looking forward to his The Hobbit because of his previous work.

Terry Gilliam, a wonderful director. Time Bandits is better than Brazil.

Andrew Adamson, for Shrek.

Rob Reiner, if Princess Bride counts as fantasy which it certaily should.

Jim Henson, because Dark Crystal and Labyrinth are great.

Tim Burton

Wolfgang Peterson, go and watch The Neverending Story.

And one who isn't a director, Ray Harryhausen, all of whose films have a charm of their own.

Back from the brink.

Like RPGs? Like Star Wars? Think combining the two would be fun? Read Darths and Droids, and discover the line "Jar Jar, you're a genius".

These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.

Oh, I'd like to also give a mention to a newcomer whom we might do well in following closely. His name is Esteban Sapir, Argentine director who released two films already, if I remember right, and his latest , La Antena, shows strong influence from the whole German Expressionist movement of the early 20's. Here's a trailer to the film, recommended to everyone:

You mean Tolkien's litreature is getting milked for cash even more? Go team.

Although, to be honest, I do preferethe movies to the books.

George Lucas 1978 not George Lucas 2008.

Completely agree with you there. The only one of the newer SW films that is anywhere near good is attack of the clones.
