So I was thinking and I am not quite sure how far between each game is between each such as Baldurs gate and Icewind Dale or others so does anyone know? Ill give examples

How far between the years are BG2 and NWN (including all expansions)

How far between is Icewind Dale 1 to Icewind Dale 2?

How far between is BG2 and Icewind Dale 1 and 2?

How far between is NWN and Icewind Dale 1 and 2?

obviously did not ask about BG1 as BG2 happens a few weeks or a month after BG1 it seems to me...

I am curious to see which is the oldest game wise and which is the newest year wise so if you know tell me! :lol:

I know the release dates, Earth time, of the games. The most reliable way to determine the game-year, Toril time, is to look at your PC's journal if you have a game installed, or wait for someone here to tell you by looking at their journal!

Here's some partial information:

BG1: Released 1998. Must be set in the year 1368 or 1369 DR (Dale Reckoning), depending on how fast you play! It has to finish in 1369 because BG2 starts "a few months later" in 1369. You could take a game-year to finish BG1 if you wanted to. The Bioware site says BG1 is set in 1370, but this contradicts the info in the game itself.

BG/ToSC: Released 1999. Set in same year as BG1.

BG2/SoA: Released 2000. Set in 1369.

BG2/ToB: Released 2001. Set "several weeks later" in 1369.

IWD: Released 2000. Set in 1281, so we're going backwards in time.

IWD 2: Released 2002. Set one generation later, 30 years on (I think -- I haven't played it for more than a year).

NWN: Released 2002. I don't have it installed so I don't know the game year.
NWN Expansions, a bunch of them: Released 2003-2004.

NWN2: Released 2006. I don't know the game year.

** Toril as we know it is much like Earth in the late Middle Ages except for the use of magic. Maybe their years run parallel to ours. If Aerie was 18 when you meet her in SoA, then she was born in 1351. If she achieves the average Elven life span of 700 years, she is now 657 and will live another 43 years. She's going to outlive me!

** Toril has probably given up magic. You don't need Fireball spells when you can cast Napalm, and +5 bows are no match for .50-cal machine guns.

** Ah! But Aerie is still sprightly, she has taken up microlighting, and she sort of has her wings back at last. She rides above the clouds and fondly remembers her love, Charname, who did not ascend but lived a full and happy life before dying of old age six centuries ago.

EDITED to fix typos (again).

I remember Aerie saying that she's "probably much older" than Jaheira. If that's the case, Aerie may not have much time left now (if any). :mellow:

What? She got an ultra-lite or something? Evidently <CHARNAME> didn't leave her much in his will, otherwise she could have at least gotten an F-18. :D

Oh, and to be on topic, I have no clue about game dates. I can't say I ever pay attention to things like that.

Thanks for the info if I to place a bet on it I would reckon then that the NWN games are either the most recent or in the most past 8)

EDIT: Well I just checked my NWN game and on one of the weapons it says that year is 1373 currently but my journal says it 1372! So either way I guess the nwn are the newest time wise and icewind dale one's the oldest and the NWN saga starts a few years after BG2 TOB is done I suppose then

Still not sure how far NWN2 though is from NWN as I dont own that game yet heh...

Someone diligent and knowledgeable may like to follow up this thread and post the information in the Timeline section of the SHS Wiki.

There is already some pretty good info there, including the BG1 and BG2 timelines.

Hey Scip. I think IWDII may have been set 20 years after IWDI, not 30.

Hmmm, no, it's set 30 years after IWDI, they are saying it somwhere in the game, I don't remember where.

With the aid of the Never Ending Journey mod, I was able to compile an actual timeline for the Forgotten Realm games.

Icewind Dale 1 ---> Roughly one century or two prior the events of BG1/BG2

Icewind Dale 2 ---> 1310 D.R. The year is said in the intro.

Neverwinter Nights Vanilla ---> 1340 D.R.

1348 D.R. Birth of the Bhaalspawns, because the main PC is roughly twenty years old due to the Sarah NPC mod. This is a more accurate and probable year for the Time of Troubles.

According to wiki the Times of Trouble ---> 1358 D.R., but I personally highly doubt it's accurate, unless the people reach physical maturity after ten years.

BG1/TotSC ---> 1368 D.R.

BG2/ToB ---> 1369 D.R.

Neverwinter Nights Shadows of Undrentide ---> 1371 D.R.

Neverwinter Nights Hordes of the Underdark ---> 1372 D.R.

1379 D.R. Death of Eilistraee

Neverwinter Night 2, I have no idea in what year in goes on in, but I do know the events happened before 1379 D.R., because we can choose the patron goddess of Good Drows herself as our deity.

Ugh...temporal physics and temporal mechanics are such major headaches. I wouldn't be surprised if I lost a few.
