Hey all,

Huge fan of SHS work. Finally bit the bullet and decided I'd try BGT. Installed everything according to the guide, including running the BG2 Fixpack first, but when I get to extracting the BGT rar file, this is the error message I get:

! Cannot create folder C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\BGT106_Install

Even if I manually create the folder in my BG2 directory I end up with the following:

! C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\BGT106_Install.rar: Cannot create BGT\Backup\bgt.ico
! The system cannot find the path specified.
! C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\BGT106_Install.rar: Cannot create BGT\Backup\Songlist\Place
! The system cannot find the path specified.
! C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\BGT106_Install.rar: Cannot create folder BGT\Backup\Songlist
! The system cannot find the path specified.
! C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\BGT106_Install.rar: Cannot create folder BGT\Backup
! The system cannot find the path specified.
! C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\BGT106_Install.rar: Cannot create BGT\Base\2DA\BG1START.2DA

etc...

So I uninstalled the FixPack and tried again with the same results. I'm running a new comp, Lenovo Thinkpad T61 with Vista Home, and it's solid overall (although I need to disable that whole permissions thing). At this point, I've no clue what to do. I'd rather not go mucking around the registry or anything along those lines too much (if this comp croaks I'm both screwed and broke :-)

Anyways, that's my situation. If you have any advice or suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks :D

disable that whole permissions thing

That's the User Account Control, yes.

Now, how old is the Winrar? I would get the newest one, unless you are sure you have installed it.
And are you sure the BGT106_Install.rar download was complete, as the download client programs might interfere with the SHS's download system or the file. And if I were you I would extract the .rar to somewhere else, as you can then just move the needed files to the game folder...

Hiya, was just about to konk out when i saw your post. To answer you questions:

1) I just d/led WinRar ver 3.80 beta 5 today from Rarlab, which is their newest version. The most recent stable one is 3.71. I can try that next, though I'm too braindead to try tonight. Winzip, OTOH, doesn't like to do much at all. I get this error message:

Error: unable to create output file "C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII- SOA\BGT\Backup\bgt.ico"

2) I've d/led the rar file multiple times. I'll try a new one tomorrow, on the off chance that things are less kooky :D.

3) I just tried the extraction process to a diff destination...first a diff program files directory...didn't like that...then in a new "Games" folder. That seemed to take. Guess the "Program Files" directory has some new quirks to it. Go figure. :D

Thanks for the help.

Well, it might be the Vistas Program File read-only function that's cooking. It's horrible... So it is better to install the game elsewhere...

Thus I always install all the games in the C:\games\gamename\ folder. Besides it made it easier to find the darn thing, as English wasn't my first language...
