Hello,
I've already created 2 amazing soundsets for BG2 , downloadable on sorcerers.net, as of late. Recently, I collected together 4 more sound sets which sounded fine on windows media-player etc., but came across as so quiet within the BG2-game, that they were virtually inaudible. Now, I bought and used a product called Visual Mp3 Splitter/Joiner, for those 4 sound sets, and , unlike the previous (one directwav mp3), the final, non-trial-version, doesn't seem to have a volume-adjuster on its screen, so that might be the problem. Is there any way to adjust the sound, artificially? Upping the BG2-sound-settings or that of the PC makes no real difference, they're still too quiet. I only used directwav mp3 splitter/joiner on a trial version, so if someone knows of a much better version than that, with extra abilities, please tell me where I can get hold of it. Thanks.

Try something like Audacity for it, which should be able to amplify things like that.

I downloaded Audacity a while back and found it incomprehensibly difficult. Any other suggestions? Wait a minute, perhaps I'd mistakenly downloaded the version ofr advanced users...

Well, Audacity is simple, once you get the hang of it. You want to go to Effects (or similar) and then Amplify. Specify how loud you want it, and click OK. Done.

I've now used audacity and saved the amplified files in project-file form via effects/amplify. Trouble is that when I export them in wav form to another folder, they have the same sound-levels as before I amplified them, and the project-file itself is not a valid audio file for BG2. If you could be so kind, can you write an idiot's guide that will allow a technophobe like me to export the project-files properly so I can use them in-game in BG2:SOA?

Forget the above, I've finally managed to get it to save properly, by trial and error. Does audacity help to remove background nosie at all, and, if so, what's the section to look at? Cheers.
