I seem to be having some issues with my computer and installing BG2(yet again!). To preface, I recently realized that my CD drive is really crappy as it always corrupts files when I'm trying to install things. So I tried to install BG2 on my computer and I kept getting corrupted files. Last time I installed the game, I was able to get around this problem by switching between my CD copy and my DVD copy and running both of their installers. However this time I got stuck on a file(CHARAnim.bif I believe). In the end, I just gave up on getting a correct install, and instead I just went for a corrupted install to get the registry values right. I then installed it on my laptop, where there were no corrupted files and then just copied the whole directory over onto my computer.

I thought this would have solved the whole problem, but it isn't working right. When I start up the game, I'm not getting any of the start up movies(not that is a bad thing). Whenever I try to start a new game, it asks me to insert CD2 into the C drive. I did do a full install and it runs fine on my laptop. I get the same response when I try to view the start up movies from the menu. Below is what I believe is the relevent portion of my baulder.ini(ithink that is the file name).

[Alias]
HD0:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\
CD1:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\English\;C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\CD1\
CD2:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\English\;C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\CD2\
CD3:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\English\;C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\CD3\
CD4:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\English\;C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\CD4\
[Program Options]
Installing=0
Install Type=3

I've tried simplifying it to a single address("C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\CD2\"), but that just makes things worse as it causes BGII to go blue and a message saying, "Baldur's Gate media removed from drive. Please Insert Baldur's Gate CD 2 into CD ROM Drive" before it even gets to the main screen, although I do get at least two of the opening movies when I do that.

...

This would be the correct form for BGII - SoA
[Alias]
HD0:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\
CD1:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\CD1\
CD2:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\CD2\;D:\CD2\
CD3:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\CD3\
CD4:=C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BGII - SoA\CD4\
And as you need to have the game cd(CD2) in the D:\ -CD drive...

If you can't have that, you can make an image of the CD, just so the game recognizes it as the CD2...by making it from the copied data folders from the CD2s if can't have one that is not corrupted.

Thank you for your help. I just messwed with it some more, and I can't get rid of the English directory thing without causing it to do the blue screen thing. However adding the D:\CD2\ thing did fix the problem of not being able to play at all. I'm going to go and do a direct copy of all the CD2 files on to my laptop and then transfer them over to my PC and see if that fixes the my inability to get rid of the English directory from the CD2 path.

:blink: I found my problem.....and it is weird. I was looking around on my CD copy of CD2 and comparing it to the files copied onto my computer, and I found that I was missing a file under the movies folder for the intro movie. Apparently that file isn't in the CD2 folder of the DVD version, as I had just a few min earlier copied the entire CD2 folder from the DVD to my laptop. So now I'm off to go and copy all the files from my other CDs to make sure that there are no other instances like this. <_<
