Just a teeny mistake in the Worldmap file. DD8001 should be DD8001C for correct travels after slaying the banshee. Apparently, DD8001 does not have a correct WED file to even access worldmap travels. Now DD8001C may have to have its WED fixed for the Worldmap. Currently it is no worldmap wheel anywhere in DD8001 and a nonfunctioning one (everything says destination unreachable) from DD8001C. Weird..

Happy Holidays erebusant and the rest of the Worldmap Crew!

I think this is meant to be behavior, as you should need to kill the spirit in the area before you can escape... and there is an cave from which I think can transfer to DD8001C... and freedom. Ups, well I referred to another mod... but what ever.

I will take another look at that area. One entrance goes into the Shadow Dragon lair in Umar  and I think that is way off. I will block the entrance now so that does not happen. I have killed the Banshee many times in the small cave but could not leave the area.

Also I will look at scripts in case it does check for the dead banshee.

OK I see the problem but I do not know how to fix it. Correct travel from Haunted Forest (DD8001) is correct in worldmap instead of DD8001c as I previously mentioned.

Now the problem is this:

DD8001C has the correct travel wheel bounding box in the area but is not linked in the worldmap. DD8001 has the links in worldmap (I think) but has no travel wheel bounding box in the area. Maybe it is at a small point in the area but I have looked at every exit trigger and it is not there.

I want to try to fix this for the next TDD revision and I am not sure what to do. How do I get the worldmap travel wheel into the area? It should be like the Forest of Tethyr (same WED) except it is missing EXIT travel triggers for Worldmap.

Thanks for any help.

EDIT:

Here is a screen shot of what DD8001 looks like opened in the WorldMap in NI. There are no links listed and no CDEXIT like other areas. Sorry I do not know how to upload screens in the reduced format to save space.

Just a cursory look at the areas in question:
1. You can travel to DD8001 via Worldmap, but you may not leave it via Worldmap.
2. From DD8001 you can travel to AR2800 @ x4308 y 2324; DD8001B @ x724 y916; DD8001C @ x4500 y2334.
3. From DD8001B you can only go back to DD8001 @ x404 y340.
4. From DD8001C you can go to AR1402 @ x4756 y1620; DD8001D @ x596 y468; back to DD8001 @ x4756 y340
5. From DD8001D you can only go back to DD8001C.

So it appears the normal function of the mod is to send you to the Haunted Forest, and the only way to leave is either to travel to Suldenassellar from DD8001B which should allow you to travel back to the Forest of Tethyr, or the Temple Ruins from DD8001C, which will allow you to come back to the Worldmap.

I never saw the logic in the entrance to the AR1402 cave going from DD8001C. DD8001c is a duplicate area of the Temple ruins and it has the same entrance point to the Shadow Dragon lair, so I don't think this is an option that makes a whole lot of sense but I guess it is the only one.

For DD8001, the Suldanesselar tree door is tagged as Door Locked (1), Unknown (5), and Door Secret (7). In normal Suld... the door unlocks by area script, so this is an invalid travel option as the travel point will never open in this DD8001.

Thanks for your help erebusant

EDIT: I checked travel availability in TDD103a and when I go from DD8001 (Haunted Forest) to DD8001C (still shows Haunted forest) through the cave door equivalent to Forest of Tethir (tran1400), I can access worldmap by the travel wheel in DD8001C and go to DD8000 (Deep Mir Forest). That is what I hope to accomplish in the TDD update so that travel makes more sense.

Or should it be left up to Worldmap?

What is the location of the travel wheel in the 1.12 DD8001C? Where does that particular one take you, or do you not go anywhere?? It may be the area needs that particular trigger removed, and a replacement DD8001CSR.bmp installed.

OK, DD8001C has the same travel wheel setup as if we were in the Temple Ruins so anywhere along the top of the area and also the west side and some parts of the south and east sides. It goes to worldmap screen but everything is red and unreachable but the location is still Haunted Forest (same icon and everything like traveling to DD8001).

I tried to test a couple things with editing my existing worldmap which took a bit of time without torching it so that a new game could load. I solved the issue with experimenting at least to get an idea of how to implement this strategy.

Any linkage from DD8001 (no travel wheel) will transpose over to DD8001C (has the travel wheel).

First Screen is my hackjob linkage as seen in NI (just copied same linkage as DD8000) so it is not perfect but plausible for the effect.

Second screen is the location in DD8001C for WM travels.

Third is what the actual world map looks like now with areas to travel to at least the small portion from Haunted Forest to Deep Mir to the north.

Hope this helps

EDIT:
Sorry the 3rd doesn't give the tooltip flag with the travel time, it just will not show up in the screen shot. I know it said 112 hours leaving DD8001C to DD8000 which is a small inconsistency going from DD8000 to DD80001 (196 hours I believe) probably from the duplicate linkage I used to test to see if something would work.

So is all you want to accomplish is to be able to access the Worldmap travel screen from DD8001? If that's the case, it's a heck of a lot easier replacing the searchmap and adding a travel link to the links table for Worldmap mod to install.

I think the goal of TDD was to be able to travel via Worldmap from the second part of the Haunted Forest (the temple ruin WED or DD8001C) which is setup already in DD8001C and the searchmap. If you can add links from DD8001 in the WMP, than travel will be available from DD8001C for some weird and wonderful reason. It was confusing for me to describe clearly as to what my intentions were as it is two areas sharing the same worldmap location and links.

Just links for DD8001 will solve the problem and a new searchmap is not needed for DD8001. DD8001C has the searchmap and travel implemented but will use links for DD8001 (once coded) as if it was DD8001 in the worldmap.

Many thanks for your help and patience!

I'm not so certain that is the case, but I haven't played that portion of the mod yet. Did any of the previous versions of TDD allow for Worldmap travel out of DD8001? Bear in mind the party is in the "Haunted Forest". How "haunted" would that be to go thru a transition point to a location that appears to be the same place you were before, but to suddenly find yourself halfway across the known world? Have you had any opportunity to attempt to contact the mods original authors to get some clarification of what the original intent was? It's easy enough to set up Worldmap travel, but I wouldn't want to change anything with the mod that isn't originally intended. I hope that makes sense.

I played TDD 103a as one of my first mods ever and I installed it again as a seperate install for reference. The quest seems to flow briefly like this:

In Deep Mir (DD8000) you are accosted by a mortally wounded elven Bladesinger who tells you the story of a woman whose spirit is now the banshee and when the Elf finishes his dialog he dies and worldmap is updated. That update is the haunted forest (DD8001) and we can travel south no problem.

Then the Haunted forest consists of different parts.

DD8001 proper is like the Forest of Tethyr (there we saw similar exits and entrances) and in the cabin is a NPC to talk to about the Banshee and how to destroy her. He also sells TDD items as well. Leaving here the party will go east all the way to that door in the hill which leads to DD8001C (looks like the temple ruins) and the party enters at the entrance close to the mirror (mirror is deactivated here). There are two other doors: 1) we saw goes to AR1402 which plays no part in the quest and 2) there is the cave to the west. This second cave goes to the Banshee lair which looks the same as the Troll mound, Once defeating the Banshee she tells of a demon that the party will have to destroy and to go to the Temple of Talos for this.

Then the party was able to leave DD8001C via worldmap to travel to the Temple District and was perfectly feasible (verisons102d and 103a) . I wanted to retain that aspect because it makes very little sense to go to the Shadow Dragon Cave which is currently the only available option. I am trying to get a copy of TDD102d to check the specs on this as well since that was the version the walkthrough used.

How "haunted" would that be to go thru a transition point to a location that appears to be the same place you were before, but to suddenly find yourself halfway across the known world?

That is what happens if you use the duplicated entrance to AR1402 (Shadow Dragon lair) which makes little sense. DD8001 and DD8001C are joined to make a large Haunted Forest. Traveling was never an option from DD8001 in worldmap but there were links for worldmap that will be used by the DD8001C area which is still the Haunted Forest.

It's easy enough to set up Worldmap travel, but I wouldn't want to change anything with the mod that isn't originally intended. I hope that makes sense.

You make perfect sense and I understand your concern but worldmap travel from DD8001C was an original component. I don't think I am trying to change anything in the original intentions, just restoring the worldmap travel from DD8001C that has been cut out.

It would make sense worldmap wise to make the searchmap cover the northern and western borders of the area. Not much we can do on the eastern border in that area due to the nature of the area anyway and south just would not make as much sense since we are going north/northwest in the worldmap anyway.

that would be real cool. Thanks erebusant! :D
