Do they have stat checks?
Will a retard have retarded dialogue options?
Will an intelligent/wise person get new options and new ways of solving problems? Is charisma important?

Charisma and intelligence do come into play with some of the dialog options. There are some stat checks as well. I admit we haven't spent much time working on dialogs for a character of low intelligence. There are a few simple choices but it is a low priority for us.

We have some stat checks for race, INT, and WIS. Some romance dialogs are also based on CHA. There is only one or two checks for very low INT. To be honest, I just don't see this being practical for an adventurer. No one can really be that stupid and survive. Even Conan was very smart, he just didn't understand "civilization".

Also on that note, what would I really code into the dialogs?

Actor - So, adventurer, you wish to delve into this mysterious dungeon and save the world from the future fate of the evil dragon?

Player - Duh.

That just doesn't work for me. If someone else wants to modify the dialogs to add in these options, that is fine but I think most of the team is busy working on dialogs for average and above average players right now.

Well, taking in account that adventurers are supposed to be exceptional individuals (for examples fighters are more like knights or samurais than ordinary soldiers. Guards and soldiers usually are level 0 fighters), it's weird that AD&D allows to have inteligence below 5 or even below 8. A character with int 8 (low average) would probably be sufficiently "low" for a competent fighter/thief/whatever.
I doubt I have ever met anyone with AD&D int below 8-9...

Also on that note, what would I really code into the dialogs?

Actor - So, adventurer, you wish to delve into this mysterious dungeon and save the world from the future fate of the evil dragon?

Player - Duh.

A character with int 5-7 would probably speak like an ogre, so I suspect that it would be something like:
"Dragon evil, me smash dragon!" or "Dragon scary! Me not go kill dragon!".
Of course, it would probably get a bad reaction.

That just doesn't work for me. If someone else wants to modify the dialogs to add in these options, that is fine but I think most of the team is busy working on dialogs for average and above average players right now.

Hmm...
Is there a big difference between playing a character with average mental stats and one with very high ones?

The primary problem faced by an effort of that magnitude, is the fact we'll need to start adding checks to every dialog choice the player ever gets throughout the TC. Conceding, yes, it would be great to have something similar to the dialog that so famously got shown in the Fallout series for example, yet the problems surrounding getting it into motion are difficult to ignore.

Current priority as far as dialog expansion goes is actually making CA more shall we say.. diverse in character, so the player isn't necessarily forced onto one track or another, a selfish person need not play the part of hero for selfless reasons and such.
That alone, is a time & resource-consuming demand in it's own right, so alas some sacrifices must be made until the opportunity arises to address the problem factor, and even then, it's far from a certain thing. :(

Not a likeable thing to do, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. :)

Options of choices mostly. ;)
Some checks aren't even concerning attributes so there's pretty much something for most if not all kinds of PCs, experimentation is fun no?

And I'll leave it there, lest I loosen the hatches on the kitty a little too much. :whistling:
