Soo, this is what I've been fddling with for the past few days...

It's a zipped up midi file ran out of trial time for my midi to mp3 converter thingy, and... they don't permit midi uploads here, do they? Ah, checked, they don't.
Anyway, would be interesting to hear your toughts. ^^

EDIT:EDIT: Added second composition. :]

Hmm. The REASONed version of the first piece has something amiss at the end of the track, the sound kinda messes together and makes a nasty WHOOMSH. Very odd... o-o

Glad to hear you like it. :]

I do plan to compose more stuff, but that'll prolly be later on. I'm planning to resume my graphics works this week or so and that'll prolly take most of my creative energies... @_@

Converted the file to .OGG format.
It should now sound pretty much uniform on all platforms; if it sounded bizarre in MIDI format, please do have another listen, the difference could possibly be great. o-o

Oh, nice! A little monotonous after a while but still good. It makes me think of old 2D RPGs with looping music like that ;-)

:woot: I now know what you meant about tempo variations! Nice try, i think Epantiras is right about old 2D RPGs. lol
Btw, what program do you use? I think you should really try a better one. The same melody may sound MUCH better on a better music production program. (and i could suggest you some really amazing VST add-ons which will boost your song on a higher level) Anyway, I like that old RPG feeling! To make it sound better, you should try to add supportive melodies and not only tempo variations. :P And i find that thingy which sound like bass-line or something, completely unrealistic at times. I cannot be sure what organ is this (bass or synth). But on the other hand, if it's meant to be like this (in order to feel like old RPG music or something) then do not alter it. Just trying to help! :D

I was working with PowerTab.
It's not really so much even a composing program as it is a tablature viewer/writer. .p
So yeah, I'm trying out better programs. I already bought Guitar Pro, which is quite decent for simple midi quality stuff, and I'm trying out Acid & Reason.
Acid is quite nice, easy to get a hang of, Reason is a bit complicated, but has by far the awesomest sounds.

Hehheh, the bass lines... A few of them were kinda just 'fekkit,,, whatevah...', others were more thoughtful and turned out better. .p

Hm, supportive melodies. Yeah, it's a good idea, just, I'm a bit weak on the theory department, so making melodies work together would take some blood and sweat... :P

Lesseee... If I get any further comment on it from my guitar teacher, I might try to patch up some of the bass tracks, maybe add some variations or something too, and run it through Reason for some 10x better instruments, but eh, well see. :]

I listened to this last night, and had it stuck in my head all day. It reminds me of Tales of Phantasia and Tales of Destiny's music, and I was always a fan of it.
Good job... is there anything you can't do? o_O

I'm flattered. ^^

But there isn't actually that much that I can do on a professional level. :[

PowerTab? i should have known... that bassline sound lol
Guitar Pro is much better but still not good enough for composing music. It's still a tablature viewer/writer. .p (the best one though)
I really don't know the other two you mentioned. Reason looks like a good one, and i find many similarities to CUBASE SX3 which i use.(i think it supports VST right?) But you know professional music production programs are really hard to handle. (that's why good music producers are hard to find and cost too much) The best way to learn the basics is to have someone (friend/teacher) to show you. And then you should work with it for a long time to get used with it. That's how I started. In 8 months i was able to be familiar with the basic functions. If you try it alone without support, you have a 100% chance to be disappointed and lost in the multifunctional universe. Think that my friends who guided be in the basics, was trying about 3 years to learn what they tought me in my first day... But anyway, if you have someone to guide you (your teacher?) then i'd suggest you to give it a try in more professional programs. Because when you learn it, you can create everything! (as long as you have the ideas lol)

Btw, i'm a bit weak at the theory department too! :whistling: lol I never said i'm expert on anything, maybe i have a little more experience but other than that consider me a simple guitarist or something. It's not only the abilities but the ideas that matter. Well, you have some interesting ideas, so if you increase your abilities you'll see great improvement!

Mmmm, I've made some progress with Reason (Which my guitar teacher pointed me to, btw, and I think it works with VSTs); I am now able to assign instruments to midi files! Huzzah!
It's mostly the massive amount of instruments that's intimidating, it'll be hell finding what's suitable for what. .p
Really, most of the other functions... Well, they're not that urgen; I can keep composing in Guitar Pro & Power Tab and then just processing the midis for a sound upgrade. @_@

Hm, it seems also that my predictions of how I would waste my time this week went amiss; I've scrambled together a melancholic doomy little piece from reworked old riffs and melodies and some little new pieces... Will probably wrap it up tomorrow. @_@

Hey that sounds pretty sweet. :)

I used Cakewalk to do my Midi project back when I was doing some commercial stuff, but I wasn't too fond of it. I'm glad you were able to come up with something better sounding (imo). :)

At the moment I am working with an external audio interface and a rather pricey sound card so all my stuff is wav or mp3. My newest stuff is on my myspace (see the sig) but I've got some old stuff there too (some songs from my sarah mod).

If you have more compositions, I'd like to hear them if thats ok with you.

Thanks! :D

I've got plenty of weird little riffs written, but few complete pieces. Right now I'm patching together something old and something new to create something... quite different from the previous. :]

Had you said that you would put also some borrowed and some Blues, I would know you would compose new Wedding Music.

Bravo! It's MUCH better now! You learn fast! (and i can see you added some sound effects in your tracks too! cool!) :D As about the new tracks, i mostly like the funeral one! For advice, be careful when add more than 2 sound effects, because the result can be messy and your basic melody may be lost! Other than that, you can try various experiments with different mixes of sounds! Wish you good luck! ;)
