Hi there,
My original post can be seen here
According to Ganesh's advice I have reposted the subject in the hope that someone will have some answers for me. It would be great to be able to play the additional content.

Below is the original post.

Problems applying "Unfinished Business Mod"

Hi there, I am new to the board and have long loved PST.
I have migrated to Linux since I first played the Game years ago, and after about 2 days of banging my head on the desk trying to install it with wine finally succeeded in getting it to work as it should albeit a bit slowly.

The reason I am posting this is because I recall having been able to patch it when I played it back in the day, now however it seems the Mods to not wish to cooperate with me and they consistently return the DOS output:

    C:\Program Files\pstub\Setup-PST-UB.exe

    [C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Planescape - Torment/CHITIN.KEY] loaded, 178649 bytes

    [C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Planescape - Torment/CHITIN.KEY] 372 BIFFs, 12135 resources

ERROR: Unable to find DIALOG.TLK in:

    dialog.tlk

Please run this program in your Infinity Engine game directory.

FATAL ERROR: Failure("Unable to find DIALOG.TLK")

Now, my first instinct was to go searching for this "DIALOG.tlk" file so I could work my way backwards and deduce the proper directory to launch the mod from (supposing that is the problem) but when I looked I didn't find any .tlk files at all let alone a DIALOG.tlk file anywhere in the Black Isle directory or any of it's subdirectories.

I have no idea how to resolve this, what could be causing it ...where to start?
The only thing I can figure is that it might have something to do with the fact that i am using the 2CD version of the game...but I am not sure.

I have purchased this game twice already in my life, so I have no issues with DL'ing another version of the thing if it comes to that (it's been payed for), but considering what difficulty I had just getting it installed in the first place I would rather not re-install if it is not absolutely necessary. If it is the only way to get the extra content however I suppose that is what I will have to do.

Can someone help me here?
Anybody know this error or what it could be?

Thanks,

Isaacthulhu

I forgot to mention, I will be happy to write up a comprehensive installation guide for *full-Install* as well as a record of all changes made and how they were successfully accomplished under Wine on Ubuntu Linux 8.04 to show my gratitude.

Record of progress with error output relating to UFB Mod PST

by Isaacthulhu on Mon Mar 02, 2009 9:09 amPostQuick Link PostView Single Post
[UPDATE]

Located this referencehttp://nwn.bioware.com/developers/Bioware_Aurora_TalkTable_Format.pdf file on .tlk files .(did not appear in previous Google searches...not sure why and looking into possible causes for it's absence in prior search)

Describes what a .tlk file IS but not where it might be located.

Still hopelessly lost.

For the love of god will someone help me?

Despite many claims that the 2 disc and 4 disc versions of the game are identical it does indeed appear to be the case that some Mods to in fact not work on the two disc white label distribution of PST as is suggested here: http://www.bootstrik...ment/files.html

If I am mistaken about this I would very much like to be set straight on the issue, as locating a copy of the original 4CD distro is proving to be a quest all it's own.

It is my understanding that LINUX is case sensitive to file names. Perhaps that is the issue? Note that it said:

ERROR: Unable to find DIALOG.TLK in:

dialog.tlk

The only difference there is in case. You said you didn't find either, but try looking again both as D* and d*, or alternatively *.tlk and *.TLK.

Assuming that is what turns out to be the problem... I defaulted to using capitalized filenames in my WeiDU changes, and I suspect I will need to change this all to lowercase to get it working with LINUX. I was initially made aware of this by SConrad back when I was -just- finishing up version 1.0 of my mods. Honestly, at the time I'd been working non-stop on the mods for about 7 weeks and at the time I had no interest in going back and systematically changing every reference to a filename in my mods in order to accommodate what seemed to me an unnecessarily restrictive sensitivity. When I am done with my current real life workload, I can hopefully find the time to spend a few days and change the file name references for LINUX compatibility.

On the other hand, maybe you can get it working by just changing the case of the file? That'd be awesome if so, let me know if that's all it takes.

Qwinn,

it IS possible that you are right and this is in fact the issue. As I said I went hunting for the .tlk file and didn't find it anywhere. Maybe I just missed it though.

Is it possible that this file is somehow hidden? I ask because I did look at length and didn't see it.

I will look again if I find it it is reasonable to expect that your proposed solution will work.

I will get back to you on it, and thanks for your time .
