I'd like to install Classic Adventures on my Mac, but I don't know how.
My first problem is the required patch. Everywhere I look, I can only find it as a .exe file, which (to my knowledge) cannot be run on a mac. Is there a mac-friendly version of the patch? A workaround?
The second problem is finding out how to install Classic Adventures. I see two files with the word "setup" in them- one a .exe file, one .tp2. I open the .tp2 file and see a bunch of "file not found" errors in Terminal's command line. Should I put the files in certian places proir to installation or something?
I've seen people occaisonally mention they've installed some BGII mods on a mac that don't have an obvious installation process such as a .dmg file, so I'm hoping there's a way to play Classic Adventures.
Any help would be welecome! Thanks!

I'd like to install Classic Adventures on my Mac, but I don't know how...

Well, here is what a PC user knows...

You need to get the latest Mac versions of the weidu-mac from here(the "OSX Binary"). The package has few different files, one of which is the weidu-mac. Open the package with a .zip extractor and copy the weidu-mac to the game folder where you already have the Setup-Classics049.tp2 and the Classics049 -folder and rename the weidu-mac as Setup-Classics049 and run it. That should do it. PS: I do not know if the CA works on Mac, but it's very good that you are willing to try.

I open the .tp2 file and see a bunch of "file not found" errors in Terminal's command line.

That's because you opened the file with the Mac OS, not with renamed weidu-mac, nor with Notepad or other text editor.

Edit: to clean up a little.

I'm actually playing CA on my Mac now. Download this: http://home.comcast....stall-tools.zip
then do this:

0) You must start with a clean, full install of BG2 and TOB patched to v2.1.2 . No other mod (including Baldurdash) should be installed before CA.
1) Run the "Baldur's Gate II" game application and start a new game with a new character, then exit. This sounds odd but it seems to fix a problem with selecting kits later on.
2) Download and unpack the CA archive somewhere convenient on your computer.
3) CA won't install unless a file named BGMain.exe exists, so create it. The easiest way is to duplicate the "Baldur's Gate II" game application (right click on it and select Duplicate) then rename it to "BGMain.exe". You can delete it after CA is loaded.
4) Double-click Install-mod.sh in the Install-tools folder. It'll first ask for your BG2 folder then prompt for the Mod. Drag-and-drop the unpacked CA folder then press Return.
5) Install-mod will convert CA to Macs and when it asks to run WeiDU, type "yes" and Return.
6) Answer the normal WeiDU questions, and then WeiDU installs the mod. This will take a while and when it says "SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED" you can type "quit".
7) Double-click makelev1.sh in the Install-tools folder. It asks for your "Baldur's Gate II" application and creates a "Baldur's Gate II Lev 1" that lets you start a game with a character at level 1.
8) Load any other mod you want; use Install-mod.sh to convert any mod that isn't a Mac mod.

And you're done loading. Double-click "Baldur's Gate II Lev 1" to play CA.

i'm not a mac user but since you asked about a mac friendly patch and i didn't see an answer to that question i thought i'd toss up this link i came across.

http://www.macgamefi....php?item=17975

That looks to be the patch needed.

Okay Steve, I did what you said, but now "Baldur's Gate II Lev 1" crashes when I try to open it. Incedentially, so does the normal Baldur's Gate II app. In case you speak mac-troubleshooting, here is the problem report my computer generated, wanting to know if I want to send it to apple.
Also, I got some file not found messages at the end of my installation process, after I said "yes" to the Ioun stone part of the patch. I thought it might be normal because Terminal told me that everything was installed successfully.

Did you do a full install of BG2? You need to manually insert each CD (SOA 1 through 4) and run the "Install BG2 OS X" application, then install TOB and finally add patch 2.1.2. When done you should have folders named CD2, CD3, CD4 and CD5 in your BG2 directory.

Run BGConfig before starting the game for the first time. Be sure to turn off 3D acceleration.

Yep, I did the full install. I've got folders for CDs 2-5 in my BGII folder. As I understand it, ToB won't even install if I don't have a full install anyway. Though I don't know if I checked before I started BGII for the *first* time after I installed CA, 3D acceleration appeared to be off.

Before I installed Classic Adventures, I made a backup duplicate of BGII. The backup was able to launch BGII just fine. I re-installed Complete Adventures as I did before to see if the problem would magically not exist this time, as is sometimes the case with computers, but everything turned out the same.
This time when Terminal ran, I copied the log from when it started giving me the file not found errors in hopes that a clue might be uncovered in it.

Those are all the steps after Weidu does the install. These are the DOS commands to copy over and uncompress the area maps. The last step is to use Weidu to BIFF all of the files in the override folder into library files stored in the \Data folder. Not sure if a Mac can run all of those steps or not.

It looks like all the /'s were deleted out of the .sh files. Could you post the .../Classics049/BIN/CA_Install.BAT and CA_Install.sh files just to be sure?

I'd love to, but I'm told that I'm "not permitted to upload this type of file" when I try. I'm using the attachments area just underneath the text box. Is there a way to increase my permissions so I can upload these files, or is there some other workaround?

Try putting the files in a ZIP file.

Okay, here they are, zipped. One is a mac-only zip file in case there's something special about it, the other one is PC compatible.

Well, the backslashes haven't been changed to slashes, apparently a difference in Bash versions. Could you run Terminal and copy-paste this to it and tell me what it says:
which bash
`which bash` --version

Attached is a fixed-up version of CA_Install.sh. Delete your old install in "/BGII - SoA copy 1" and make a fresh copy with the same name. Double-click Install-mod.sh and install CA. When it asks "Run WeiDU to install it now?", replace the CA_Install.sh in .../Classics049/BIN/ with the one in the attachment then answer Yes to Install-mod.

The new CA_Install.sh file works, and I can run CA now! Hooray! Thanks, Steve! By the way, what did you change in the new file to make it work?
Also, I got a few error messages while installing CA. I hope it dosen't mean it'll crash on me when I get to a certian area or something. Here are what they were:

Glad to hear you got it working, but I still don't know why it failed.

> By the way, what did you change in the new file to make it work?
I changed the \'s in file names to /'s. For some reason the command to do this in Install-mod didn't work.

> ERROR: COPY ~Classics049/Core/script compiler/ACTION.ids~ ~script compiler/ACTION.ids~ FAILED: cannot open target
There is I guess another script compiler other than WeiDU, and it reads its .IDS files out of the "script compiler" folder in your BG2 directory. WeiDU continues on after this, so you probably can ignore it.

> cp: override/TC4???N.WED: No such file or directory
> cp: override/TC4???N.MOS: No such file or directory
> cp: override/TC4???.BCS: No such file or directory
The files don't exist and can safely be ignored.

SBB has released a patch for CA 0.49: http://www.shsforums...howtopic=39842#
If you want to try to install it, run Install-mod like before on it. When Install-mod reaches the "Run WeiDU now?" question, delete .../Classics049a/BIN/CA_Install.sh (all it does is biff the newly added files) then answer "Yes" to Install-mod to install the patch.

Well, it's the games own script compiler that comes within the game to make custom scripts for the Player Character, by the player. The error can be ignored cause one will probably never need the utility, as there are several better once online.

The *N.* files will never exist so I have now removed these commands from the next version. The script files (*.BCS) will probably exist once we add a story to this area. So ignore the error for now.
