Hi all,

I'm sure many fans of PS:T will agree the music is great.
I recently got the soundtrack which is 320 kbps, i'm not sure what the original bit rate (or even format) was, but I don't think is was that high quality?

How easy would it be to replace the original music files? I've looked in game Music directory folder but I don't think it's just a case of copy/pasting the tracks :) ?

I would sadly be pretty useless when it comes to helping with this. I didn't think the game's music was low quality (filewise) though.

It look to me like most of the music tracks have a .ACM extension.

It would be pretty simple, you'd just need to use a program to convert the mp3s to acm. :)

You could also restore "Morte's Theme"...
His theme in the game is the Nameless One's.

Indeed, you're right that Morte (who, from his position on the songlist, should be CHAR_11) reuses TNO's (CHAR_01). I was all excited in thinking that it would just take replacing the one character in the songlist, until I realized that CHAR_11 doesn't exist in the shipped game. :(

So if someone can actually find CHAR_11.MUS and CHAR_11.ACM, I'd be happy to put it into the game.

Curious - anyone know what the conditions are to get one of these themes to play within the game?

I think MUS file is like a playlist? It's config file of some sort. There is a flac cd rip of soundtrack floating around so if someone can find a prog that will convert mp3/flac to acm you could then convert Morte's track and use it instead of TNO one. The Smoldern' Corpse Bar alternative track is pretty good as well.

Asking again, since I keep getting asked about restoring the music...

Anyone know what the conditions are to get one of these themes to play within the game? I'm not a big music guy... I really enjoy PS:T's music but I don't hunt for particular pieces. "Annah's Theme"? "Dak'kon's Theme"? I have absolutely no idea when these songs play in game. Is it when you get near them? If so, why doesn't it play all the time when you're grouped with 'em?

Sorry if these are retarded questions, but I really have no idea.

Also, I do gotta ask... are there any possible legal ramifications of me converting these mp3's into acm's and packaging them in my mods? I don't think these 5 missing tracks actually shipped.

You can download the mp3's off platter's site so I don't think so.

That makes sense. Dammit, again, I really wish I could get a hold of Platter. He posted like one post on my forums (as a Guest, so I couldn't PM) and then vanished again.

But alright, based on that, lemme see what I can do. Still would love to know what triggers the various PC themes in the game to play.

EDIT: AHA! Figured it out. And ugh, this explains it. The primary place most of the themes play is in their Fortress cutscenes. Morte doesn't -have- a Fortress cutscene. So it's not just a simple matter of sticking it in a file somewhere so it'll play.

Hmmmm, you can hear them the first time you approach most of the characters too. In Morte's case, at the very very beginning of the game, the script says to play TNO's theme. The question then arises: is that the only place you hear TNO's theme? If not, if it's heard somewhat regularly, then sure, I'll replace it at the very beginning.

That is the only place TNO's theme is played in a script though. If it's playing elsewhere, it'd probably have to be attached to an area file.

EDIT: LOL, damnit, Morte has TWO themes. How the hell am I gonna squeeze them in? *grumble*

I wonder if I could get all of the various themes to play when you are in dialogue with the PC's. That'd be kinda cool, I think. Since you get very little chance to hear any of them otherwise.

Very strangely, the only other place it seems you hear TNO's theme (other than possibly on the "New Life" screen, not sure if that's it) is in the Silent King Throne Room.... and only at night. Guessing that was a mistake.
