Hi. I've played both BGII SOA and TOB a while a go, and decided to buy a copy of BG-Original Saga (BGI&TotSC). However, I was a bit dismayed to find that the old game, though excellent, was clearly not as good as the new one... (reasonable, given the major upgrade in the engine). So I decided to try BGT-WeiDU.

Can anyone help me in the process of a creating a solid installation of these four games, using the BGT. I really don't have any plans of using any major mods and the like, do as far as I can see, if I should change my mind, most Mods I like are WeiDU, and from what I've gathered, that should pretty much ensure compatibility.

I have:

Baldur's Gate The Original Saga (Can anyone tell me what is the latest recommended patch?)
Baldur's Gate II - SoA (Can anyone tell me what is the latest recommended patch?)
Baldur's Gate II - ToB (Can anyone tell me what is the latest recommended patch?)
Baldur's Gate II - SoA Collector's Edition, and Baldur's Gate II - SoA Bonus CD

BGT-WeiDU v1.07
BGT Tweak v8

Yoshimo Friendship v1.0

NPC Flirt Packs v1.02 (from pocketplane)
Banter Packs v9.0 (from pocketplane)

G3 BG2 Fix Pack v8.0
G3 BG2 Tweak Pack v7.0

Improved Robe of Vecna

That's all I have. Should I try and find FixPatches for BG1 and TotSC? Or should it be really clean and vanilla for the BGT installation to work? Also, what order should I install these in, and would the Tweak Pack found in the G3BG2TP still work? I liked a lot of the tweaks found there.

Finally, is there a Viconia romance/banter mod for the BG1 part of the game? I plan to have her as my one and only girl throughout the entire saga.

From what I can guess, the correct order should be:

BG 1 - Original Saga (Includes TotSC and patched to the newest version, I think)
BG 2 - SoA then BG 2 - ToB, patched to 26498 (or should I use 26499Beta?)
BG 2 Collector's Edition; BG 2 Bonus CD

G3 BG2 Fix Pack

BGT-WeiDU

G3 BG2 Tweak Pack

BGT Tweak

Yoshimo Friendship
Banter Pack
Flirt Pack
Improved Robe of Vecna

Is this good? Any suggestions are welcome!

PS: What is the BG1 NPC Project? Is it any good? Should I include it? Is it compatible? When should I install it, in the over-all procedure? Thanks.

You don't need any patches for the BG Original Saga, but you can always patch it back to v(1.3.)5512, but the BGT should takes either that or the Original Sagas v(1.3.)5521.
You don't need the SoA patch, as it's already in the BG2:ToB, and so you only need the 26498, and use that, as the 26499beta is just that, a beta and some mods etc do not work with it!

the correct order should be:

BG 1 - Original Saga.
BG 2 - SoA then BG 2 - ToB, patched to 26498.
BG 2 Collector's Edition; BG 2 Bonus CD (you really do not need this)
G3 BG2 Fix Pack
BGT-WeiDU
Yoshimo Friendship
Banter Pack
BG1 NPC Project
Flirt Pack
Improved Robe of Vecna
G3 BG2 Tweak Pack
BGT Tweak

I would install them in the above order, note the red high lights.

I think it's the data that puts the two bonus merchants into the shops during the game, and a lot of game images etc. The bonus merchant's are also in the BG2 Tweaks... so, that's why you don't need Bonus CDs.

Installation was tested on Windows 98 using a much older version of BGT, so it should work with this version. If you do run into any problems, let us know here and we'll see what we can do to help.

Realizing these posts are of 2009 but will put my question here anyway!

I've installed BG2+ToB on my Ubuntu 13.04 system and I want to take advantage of all WeiDU seems to offer. I'd like to install the G3 tweaks as well. Any idea as to how to proceed correctly ? I haven't been so succesful at WeiDU installs so far nor with Near Infinity (the .jar file doesn't execute, just extracts). I played BG2 thru and thru and want to get the enhanced experience. Right now, I just want to try soloing with a bard/mage but I'd like to tinker with kits and maybe npcs eventually ...

Thanks for any hints!

Well the BGT-weidu is a PC only unfortunately, among the hurdles is the fact that the BG1 data needs to be transferred... and the only Linux BG1 is the EE, which the BGT won't cover so far. Ascension64 would need to make that compatible and that's a try he hasn't said a whisper about. Well as far as I know.

nor with Near Infinity (the .jar file doesn't execute, just extracts).

That's because you have to have a javaruntime application(Java Standard Edition Runtime Enviroment) at least on a PC to run a .jar files. Yes, a Winrar can extract it but that's not totally what the program is all about.
As for the BG2 Tweakpack, you can run the Linux pack, and follow the readme.

And then there's the option to have the Linux Windows emulator, but I have no idea how it works, except that it can run the games as if you were using a PC after configuring it properly.

This assertion by The Imp, I think, is incorrect. BGT-WeiDU is not PC-only. It has compatibility to install on both Linux (Wine-tested) and MacOS (unclear if tested). It is noted to install fine on Wine.

However, a linux user would be most appropriate to chip in here and say whether other Linux OSs support BG1 and BG2, because I don't own and test on a Linux system, I cannot say. I'd not jump to conclusions as The Imp has over this.

One can install BG 1 and BG 2 on linux (I have Ubuntu 12.04) just fine. Some may experience well known problem during installation BG 2 when the instalator stuck at 95%. The second common and well known problem is inability to save a game normally. There are workarounds for both problems.
The clean game is running fine. With mods, there may be some rare CTD, so saving often helps. It is advised to tick 3D acceleration in the config.
Now to BGT. I have installed all my mods one by one and after each mod, I tried whether the game runs correctly. All is fine but after installing generalized biffing I experienced a problem. When I start a new game in Candlekeep, there are no actors. No Phlydia, no Gorion, no tutors. I cannot go anywhere as if exit points were deleted or what. The worldmap shows me BG 1 world.

Hih, that's funny... as the BG1 can be installed on a Linux, if you use the Wine emulator, which is basically a PC in a Linux computer, alike the DosBox is a DOS emulator for WindowsXP et, but it's a emulated game still, not a pure Linux based game. In which the stipulation is that you use the PC installation tools to mod the thing, not the Linux... as in, you run the computer, then emulator, install the PC game to your system and .... so you are not using a Linux as the operation system, you are using Wine to emulate the PC... or Windows, and yes, the BGT can be installed on a PC... dah.

And the fact that the Tactics is not patched to the BWP patch, but you still use the Lolfixer...

I am glad that my post amuzes you, but back to the topic. I have solved my problem and the game runs flawlessly - both BG1 and BG2 needs to be tolowered. I am not aware that Tactics needs a patch. Whats wrong with the mod?

It overwrites... so any mod change to any of the same creatures or scripts that Tactics uses made before the Tactics is installed is void after installing it.
