RE for Baldur's Gate II
I would really like to see more adult romance added to the game. I felt that even the latest version of RE was severely lacking in several ways.
I would like to devote my time and abilities to expanding this mod and was wondering if anyone had an interest in doing the same. I'm a writer and i have several good ideas for new encounters and expanded existing ones. I can provide endless dialogue and ideas but i can't script. is anyone interested in working on this?

I don't see how you could have found RE "lacking", but to each his own I guess.

I do have a remark, though: you should head over to the "Romantic Encounters" sub-forum over at Gibberlings Three (as soon as the boards are back up, they're currently completing maintenance on them), and discuss it with the creators of the mod (namely Kulyok, but also a host of other great names from the modding/writing scene, such as berelinde, cmorgan, Evaine Dian, jastey, magrat, Domi, Aeryn, and Cal Jones to name but a few). In my humble opinion, the very least would be to contact and ask them if you want to add/change contents in the mod.

Considering that some of RE's entries can hardly be called anything else but porn, I'm uncertain how much farther one can go and try.

mainly it's the variables in the encounters, there's typically only one or two possible endings for each. they're short and generally only one time encounters.
I have a lot ideas for making it better and more in depth is all.

thanks for the advice. as soon as G3 boards are back up i intend to do exactly that.

@Crimpson: Well, that's the thing, they're not romances, they're just encounters that range from one night stands to simple flirts.

@GeN1e: I think it all depends on which encounter you're talking about. Some are rated M, others barely pass for PG-13, in my opinion.

I consider that rather harsh wording considering the purpose of pornography. A scene can be sexy and/or sexual without being degraded to the level of nothing more than masturbation fuel. I'd be surprised if I'm the only RE writer who is mildly offended by the comparison.

@ Crimpson: I'm always pro-expansion when it comes to RE. Once G3 is back up and running, I'm sure any well thought out, new ideas and input you have would be welcome, but it sounds like you want to change the hard work of other people into something you think is more suitable. If that's the case, I'd say you're better off learning to code and making your own version of the encounters using your own words and interpretations. I personally wouldn't want someone moving in and changing something I worked hard on simply because they think they can do it better.

Huh; I had been under the impression the project lead [eggshells] felt that sort of content wasn't appropriate for the mod [/eggshells]. I'm pretty sure I'd seen it stated explicitly, either publicly or in private grumbling by RE writers. Was it eventually changed?

Reading the mod's Readme must be extremely hard and time-consuming, I'm sure.

Anishai/Chanelle/Solaufein/Elhan's encounters are there, for starters, and have been from the first version.

You're welcome to bring new encounters to the mod. As Aeryn said, it's much more beneficial if you learn to code, but it's pretty easy, and the tutorials here can help.

As for editing/enhancing other people's mods, here's what I have to say: we've been modding for several years. In all these years, people did mod other people's mods: for example, Keto is a shiny example. But it's been done only in co-authorship, or, at least, with graceful permission of the original author. And I like this tradition. I'd like to keep it in RE, too.

On my part: if a writer I knew(I knew his or her encounters, fanfiction, mods and would feel compatible with it(for example, I love Aeryn's Sarevok, and I love jcompton's Jasper, but I think I'm more compatible with Sarevok than with Jasper )) would come to me and ask to enhance some of my romantic encounters, I'd be more inclined to say "Sure, go ahead!". But less so if it was a new person, someone whose stories/mod scripts I never read. So, I, too, would recommend you to start with new encounters. Good luck.

On top of 15 college units, including o-chem with a lab and a course with the "Writing Intensive" heading, and about 9 unit-equivalents of being the primary caregiver for a special-needs five year old, with no time to even play for the foreseeable future let alone explore new mods, yeah, it kind of is.

I'm glad I'm mistaken and the issues I recall coming up were worked out.
