Hello! I'm trying out this mod and I think it's a great idea. Thank you!

However, I have to ask about this. The original game was in 640x480; this is the typical 4x3 proportion which is standard to... well, a lot of things. I'd have thought that the first resolution you'd support would be another 4x3 type, for instance 1024x768 or 1200x900. But for some reason all 4 resolutions you guys have decided to support deviate from that and frankly I'm not terribly comfortable looking at them. Could I ask why this has been done like that? Would it be a lot of trouble to add support for 1024x768? Unless that involves a lot of non-trivial work, of course.

Perhaps because the Widescreen mod stretches things best if they retain the same proportions?

This is speculation, only, however.

...

For one, the widescreen mod doesn't stretch any graphics, it just increases the range of what you can see... there's still a pixel for pixel matching. For two, I thought the problem I indicated is that proportions were NOT retained.

Or am I not understanding your post?

It is probably my lack of understanding, because afaict, WSM does stretch things to fill the screen, and I read the bit about 640x480 and 1024x768 as both being 4x3 as meaning they both have the same scaling.

I am probably not understanding properly.

I've remained at 1280x resolutions because I started with the 1280x800 widescreen and then it was easier to make the other resolutions when trying to cover all the aspect ratios. Since my mod adds and edits many of the UI elements it's tough work to make it support different resolutions. I have plans for supporting more resolutions but I can't make any promises right now. You know, The Vanished One has made a 1024x768 UI for PST , check it here.

Gotcha. Thanks for pointing me to that link :) I'll see what it does. Though at first glance though it doesn't look as good as what you guys did here, with the font improvement.

EDIT: yeah, I'll just stick to raw Widescreen in 800x600. I tried playing your mod but the changed propotions and the sheer ugliness of the larger fonts get to me - and I tried to play that one you linked me to, but the fonts were too small for comfortable reading..

What I'd really wish for would be a resolution that keeps the original aspect (a resolution of 4x3 proportions, like 640x480, or 800x600, or 1024x768, or 1280x960 etc) AND has a suitably enlarged font that actually looks like the original font. Hey, one can dream at least ;)
